Default C6....AT or 6SPEED??

I am about to sell my range rover and make the jump to a C6(after driving my friends). He has an auto and I like it but have always driven manual. Are the auto's faster in those or should I stick with the 6speed. Also I am looking to order headers, exhaust, intake, thermostat, and tune....And brand recommendations or other mods for the money you would suggest??

Thanks

A manual, as a rule of thumb, allows more control over the vehicle, in my opinion. Also; the manuals are just flat out more fun to drive. However, for some reason, if you want both hands on the wheel, or you go through a lot of traffic to work\back or however you'll be driving the C6, I'd get an automatic. As to mods, what're you looking at spending on it, modification wise? Off the top of my head, I can suggest a few things, from personal opinion. Borla is some of the best sounding exhaust I've heard on the new C6's, and after that, I'd say the Kooks stuff is pretty good. Flowmaster is a no, due to poor flow (Ironic, isn't it..), and after Kooks, I'd say Magnaflow. K&N or JLT are trusted names in Cold air intakes for most vehicles, and rarely have an issue. As for a tune, (I'm not sure if this is possible, or who would do it, but..) Having your computer flashed with a Z06 tune would wake things up a bit, I imagine.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Corsa. Forgot about them.

I appreciate the feedback would still like to hear more opinions...As far as exhaust I want some loud and that performs, no cats, etc. The auto seems to shift fast, and the car is quick...If I go with the 6speed going to grab drag radials doesnt rain much here...Thanks again

The new 6 speed auto is very fast and quick shifting. In the right hands a traditional manual still has an advantage especially at launch. The bottom line is: get what you really want and what will be fun to you.

I'm manual all the way!

Everyone has his or her own opinion on this but I would want a stick in the vette. I must say though that I do not use my vette as a daily driver. I have a nice comfortable automatic for my daily commute and that is my preference. If I had to drive the vette everyday....Nope, I'd still get the stick.

I personally can't enjoy driving an automatic SPORTS car, especially if it's a vette. I want to "Feel" the power shifting it and not only use one hand and one foot.
To each his own of course, some people prefer Automatics, I'm sure out of every 10 people you ask you'll find 6-7 who prefer 6 speed, I just read 4 responses here so far and 5 including myself, 4 prefer 6 speed.

There's NOTHING like the sound of it SHIFTING.

The only reason I'd ever want a auto vette, if it's going to daily driver, and lots of traffic; otherwise I'd always want a manual tranny.

What package options/color are you looking for on your new purchase?

Vette = 6 speed manual.... I have an AUTO Trans am and then a 6 speed Trans Am world of difference.... Go manual or you will regret it... Even in traffic its not that bad , I mean I just tinted the car out and take the car pool lane.

from what I've read the best quarter mile times for the LS3 have come with the auto 6 speed. Even still, I'd buy a manual. With the broad torque range of the LS motors, you can lug around in 2 or 3 gears all day, like 2nd & 5th and not worry about shifting unless you feel like it.

I'm fairly certain JLT does Fords, specifically mustangs only. I had one my 03 Cobra, nice piece. IMO, Vararam for cai performance. A custom dynotune will do wonders for the C6. I have mn6, 05 C6. Not my daily driver, a weekend car. I love shifting gears but I take mine to the drags a lot and having an auto (specifically the 05 A4's) with a converter, will make things easier at that type of track. Fastest bolt-on C6 is an 05 A4 afterall. Though I'm sure the A6 could be just as quick, best of both worlds I guess.

JLT only does Mustangs? I wasn't aware, I could have sworn I saw a Vette CAI for sale from them.. Either way, Vararam is the popular choice it seems. I'm still learning a bit for the Corvette's, so feel free to correct.

Well, with Headers, intake, and a tune, you'd probably get.. well, it's hard to say. You may want to asks someone with a similar set up as the one you're looking at doing, and see what they get.

It depends. Which C6 you are getting (as in ls2-ls3)? The Ls3 will respond to Lts, CAI, and a tune much better than the Ls2. A m6 will dyno better than the a6....so throw the info this way and we can give you a reasonable guess.

Some thoughts from someone who has owned both. Trans Am was manual. '03 Z06 was manual (of course). Now I'm in an A6. I did regret the switch at first because the paddle shift didn't feel responsive enough. I still think about trading the car for a manual every now and then. But then I get a wild hair and drop it into sport mode (automatic shifts are quicker in sport), and drive the hell out of it. It is still a damn fun car to drive and handles very well, and the A6 shifts a heck of a lot faster than I ever could without power shifting. And it's still stock. There's an A6 tune available that will make it even faster.

It has taken two years for me to warm up to the A6 after 7 years of driving manual cars. But, honestly, I'd sell this car tomorrow for a C6 Z06 given half a chance. Too bad the market for used C6 Vettes is in the toilet. It's good for you, but bad for me. It's definitely a buyer's market right now.

As for LS2 vs. LS3, the torque management on the stock LS3 is a bad thing if you want to drag race (good thing if you don't want to get sideways on the freeway). That's the first thing you should do with an LS3, a custom tune. There is a running debate that stock for stock the LS2 cars outrun the LS3 cars. The LS3 definitely responds better to mods. And for drag radials, be sure to get stiff sidewalls because you don't want to kill the handling. Having flexing sidewalls on the rear would defeat the purpose of getting a Z51.

For the trans and overall car the 08 models are just a little bit better better in all areas. trans, engine, susp. the car just feels better. alot of cust who had 05-06 vettes said the 08 is just a better car. GM just tweaked every thing a little bit more. Corsa makes a great set up for these cars. some good sound clips are here http://http://www.dpecorvettes.com/Download.html
