Default DR Questions

Well I am going to be purchasing a set of DRs as soon as I make my mind up. At the moment I am content with purchasing a set of Nitto 555r's or the 555rII's. My reasons for choosing them are as follows.

I do not go to the track more than once or twice a year.

From what I have read Nittos are great for the street and ok at the track which is great for me.

Nittos are the best in the wet conditions if you are caught in the rain.

Nittos last longer than the other DRs on the market.

My questions are is what I have found through searching correct? The Nittos do last longer than the BFGs and M/Ts? That is my biggest concern is the mileage I will get out of them. Since I do not go to the track but once or twice I wont be doing burn outs on them, so that will not effect my tread wear. I just want a nice sticky tire for the summer I can use on the street and not worry about spinning. I have the factory run flats right now and I am tired of spinning every where I go, I could get beat by a mustang GT right now because of it.

Also, will the DRs be fine for a factory rear? Or will it cause too much stress for the rear hooking up? From what I have read it will be fine as long as I dont have wheel hop. Which I should not have if the car hooks well.

Throw me your opinions of the different DRs out there. Keep in mind, my biggest concern is the life of the tire. It will only be used on the street in the summer. If you know of one that last longer than the Nitto DR let me know.

I have the Nitto 555r's. Drag Extreme. Anyways, they spin a good amount at my power level in first, but grab like super glue when I hit second. The runflats I had would spin half way thru third. That sucked. I wasn't happy with the track traction at all, like launching on ice. 2.11 60 was the best I could do with heated up tires, and 20 psi. I am considering M/T et streets for my next trip to the track.

On the point of lasting some miles, the Nittos are holding up pretty good for me. Not sure the exact mileage but its got to be 4k or more and they still look pretty close to new. Good upgrade for the street, not too sure about the track.

I agree with your decision. I have tried most all drag radials at one time or another and for your requirements, the Nittos are best. I am actually considering putting Nittos on the rear of my car once these tires are shot.

You need to go to the track with us sometime. I think you will enjoy racing the Z.

Come down to Huntsville and you can try out my M/T drag radials... They are horrible in the rain, but hook well at the track. I think the Nitto is what your are looking for if you don't want to swap out wheels for when you go to the track.

Its quicker to drive to Bowling Green and run the quarter than make the trip to Huntsville. Vettes shine on the quarter. Huntsville does have a nice 1/8th mile track though. It is usually prepped very well.

Yeah I am dying to get her to the track for the first time. Work is a little slow right now, after all my bills I am pretty strapped. As soon as I can afford the stickies, Lts and a X I will be at the track. I am going through mod withdrawals right now...lol. I was ok with the T/A since it was H/C, but having an almost stock car is killing me. Oh well, I will be there soon enough.

My best was 2.11 LOL Lowered the pressure, and heated them a bit and nothing. No hook at all unless I shifted to 2nd early which kills momentum.

From what I hear, Nittos are much better on the street than the track. If you are looking for a track tire I would go with the BFGs or M/Ts. I need a tire that will hook on the street and get some mileage so thats why I decided on the Nittos.

Nittos are a good choice for mostly street use. They're safe in the rain for about 8,000 miles depending on how you drive. The RII's give you a little better handling.
