Exclamation LSx gurus...help diagnose mystery noise.

Alright...I've noticed a noise in the car, need some ideas. I wish you could hear it in person, but alas... Here's what I can tell you:

1. It is definitely RPM related
2. I hear a metallic jingling / cricket noise when the tach is at lower RPM and falling
3. Under WOT conditions, I have developed a screeching north of ~5k RPM
4. I can duplicate #2 when the clutch is in or out
5. #2 eliminated belt slipping in my mind (plus it's a new belt), plus there is a somewhat metallic nature to it

I am inclined to think that it's a pulley of some kind (alternator, PS pump, etc.). My belt was in poor shape and coming off when I arrived at a recent dyno day, but had not previously noticed it [in my very short period of ownership that is].

Additionally, I have read commentary from Katech saying that belt jumping is a common issue, hence their development of the user adjustable tensioner.

Throw me some ideas and I'll go from there.

Read related discussion here, maybe it'll trigger an idea... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...p?p=1565247338

Well, it sounds like I'm in for a harmonic balancer replacement, we'll see when I get home.

Is it comming from the front of the car? Mine is doing something really close to what yours is doing....but mine is the Pilot bushing, that the input shaft goes in. It is toast! But the noise was comming from around the firewall....

I'm reasonably certain it's not coming from the back of the engine, but I don't know that for sure. I can't replicate the screeching unless I rev the **** out of it, but I might be able to track down the jingly / cricket sound.

Considering its only 5 years old I thought maybe you were the original owner and had some extended coverage. I bought my car new and had an extended warranty 7 yr / 50000 miles. It was also transferrable. Not a bad investment considering it was 1000 bucks and I had my car in for a few issues that totaled 2100. 1000 up front saved me 1100 on the back end.

lets start the diagnosis.................id simply pull the serpintine belt and fire the car..........take the car 5 seconds up the block as the car will overheat if ran too long w out waterpump spinning......if your sound is gone than its pully related, at that point spin all the pullies by hand and listen for excessive bearing noise/travel in all the pullies............if it is in the pully system u should be able to pick it out rather easy...............if not than search other avenues...........how many miles on your car? maybe a possible (shot in dark) throw out bearing??

I wish I had one, but I don't. Then again, I've never liked other people working on my cars.

I took the belt off last night and checked everything for radial play. I will fire the car when I get home and check it for noise. I had considered the throwout bearing due to the jingling sound, but I have not investigated and frankly I'm not really sure how I could check that.
