Default Longtube headers

i was wondering what the top three long tube headers were for the C5. some guy at the local cruise night told me he wanted SLPs and i told him there are probably better ones out there but i am not familiar with headers for the corvettes. thanks.

IMHO I like the Cartek's 1st big primary 1.875. 2nd I would either go with the LG's I do not know if they offer them in a 1.875 but that is the way to go. I believe howell has a 1.875 as well and after a H&C package he pulled 455RWHP in part due to the exh he had. After those The TPIS are a decent header as well. Whatever you get look for these: a decent length primary as well as a larger primary 1.75 minimum, minimal bends, a long tapered collector, a velocity spike, merge collector these are the elemnt that make a great header.

Has anybody tried SLP Longtubes? I'm thinking about getting some and I was wondering what kind of gains they saw? I have a 98 C5 6sp.

1 7/8 I think is to big for most cars. I have TPIS and they are leaking at the slip fit. I have Random Cats and X pipe waiting to go on. If I bought headers today I would buy LGs or Stainless Works with the Stainless Works mid section.

Run a search on Corvetteforum there was a topic with fitment problems and the installation of the RKs being a PAIN compared to TPIS, FLP and LG.

Kooks are suppose to come out for the C5 if you can wait I would go with those.

LGMs are the best. Hands down. Al the rest are systems which compromise tube length to make it fit the stock exhaust. I talked with Kooks, and theirs are going to be the same way. Just an other version of the TPIS header basically. LGM is the only way to go....

1) LGM
2-3 tie) FLP and Stainless Works

Cartek 1-7/8 are too big for 346ci and many have lost power with them.

Most of the 1 7/8" setups you see also dont usually recommend you run them on the street. I say 1 3/4" is about as large as you need to go.

LG Motorsports "Pro Long Tube Headers" are 304 Stainless steel, 1 3/4" primaries 32" long. they connect to a Race Style Merge Collector, then a 3" X pipe then into 3" mid/rear pipes, and connect directly to your rear cat back mufflers. When CHevy tested headers for the World Challenge race cars, they tested every length, and they came up with 32" primaries as the BEST length for power under the curve. Nearly every Corvette in the Speed World Challenge now runs 32" headers from LG Motorsports.

With Tuning we have seen 38+ rwhp gians on a 2001 C5, and 28rwhp on a Z06. We have hit over 393rwhp on a Z06 with just the headers and intake. Most Z06 cars dyno in the 455 to 465 rwhp with an air intake. anything lower is unusual.

The main benefit and often overlooked fact is that our LG Long Tubes make more torque from 2000 to 5000 rpms over every brand of header available for the Corvette.
Katech did a back to back test against the TPIS and found 30 more ft lb of torque at 2700 rpms OVER the TPIS. Similar gains in mid range torque over other brands are normal.

Any header with short runners can make hp at the top rpm range,(peaky) but our headers make it both at the top AND bottom of the power band. We have much more area under the curve.

The whole system from the engine back to the flange at the cat back mufflers is a direct bolt in with NO welding, and can be had with Random 3" metal matrix cats.

The off road, (no cats) cost $1595 complete, and the Cat version is $1995.

Thanks

They make great power and sure do look nice. How long after order placement till shipment.I think this will be the first mod for my Z06 minus cats of course.Would tuning be required on a otherwise stock car due to the cat delete.

We have them in stock and ready to ship. We have plenty of dealers so if we are out we can direct you to a dealer who has them in stock.

But we should have plenty available.

George,

You are mistaken. Our LG Pro Long tube headers are +/- 1 inch which is as good as any on the market.
Our headers are also 304 Stainless steel all the way back to the cat back mufflers,
not galvanized exhaust pipe.

We also use the new and expensive Random "Metal Matrix" cats that are the best flowing
cats on the market, and the best hp producing cats available, for a very fair price.

Our headers have a production Merge collector included at no extra charge, and a full 3"
system right to the mufflers at no extra charge.

I would gladly put our LG Pro Long Tubes up against any C5 header available.

Right now, there is nothing better than our C5 headers. Yes, there are plenty of
different headers, but nothing better than the LG Pro Long Tubes.

Thanks
Lou G

I'll make the same offer.

Kooks and LGM can send me headers, and I will test both sets and dyno them both @ MTI.

Here is the dyno on my car.
