C6 base.. like the removbale roof, C6 is much more evil looking. shorter by about 5" all the cooler electronics... and has an LS2 instead of LS6 which has more displacement and potential as an engine without going deep into it.

C6 Z-51 for me....

Had a C5 vert and have driven many C5 Z's....both great cars, but the C6 is hands down a better car. Why? Interior, seats, fit and finish, lights, looks (arguably), more cubes, warranty, etc.... If you are looking for a designated track car, then I might stick with the Z since it is cheaper.

Ugly? To each his own.....

Never liked the C6 body due to ugly/plain slab side looks...flared fender C6 Zo6 not included...

And the wheels on the '08 look uglier than the '97 wagon wheels... uhh ohhhhh... I'm getting sick... oh crap I'm gonna puke.... looking at some pics I just saw.... oh no...

I don't think warranty should be included as part of the advantages of the C6 over a C5Z. I bought a GM bumper to bumper extended warranty for my C5Z for 24K/3yrs which I'll easily reach 3yrs before I hit 24K miles so I'm more than happy with that.

its funny if you go over to the corvette forum where there are way more guys who have had both 99% say c6 is way better. A 08 ls3 base vette is just as fast as a stock c5z if not faster. And man if you do your reasearch Ive seen places where guys are seling 08 1Lts for 39-40k brand new. plus you get a way better interior and a way better ride and less road noise

Why compare a $25k car to a $40k+ car? As stated throughout the thread, think of the comparison as a 04' C5Z vs an 05' C6 base. We're not comparing the 385hp 01' Z06 to the 430hp 08' C6 here. And I don't know about the Corvette forum, but main my basis for comparison is performance ... not creature comforts, GPS, push button start, road noise, etc

In fact, I'd say the one place where the C6 didn't really make any significant gains is in the ride quality/handling department (the suspension designs and dynamics are basically the same). Compare a C6Z to a C5Z and the rides are nearly identical. A C6Z51 is slightly more compliant than a C5Z and by that same margin doesn't handle as well.

If maximum handling capabilities aren't your thing (and they may not be, heck, I'd say 99% of the owners won't use 5/10ths of the base handling) then a base C6 will ride more comfortably.

I went with the C5Z. I never drove a base c6, but I drove the C6Z. The interior was nicer, and for about $1k I got the parts I wanted, the seats and shifter. I'm going to mod any car, so waranty isn't a consideration for me. I don't dislike the C6 looks, but I think the C5Z looks better. To me these cars are fast toys and not daily drivers. To some people it's important to be able to tell their friends I have the latest and greatest, newest toy on the market. I'm not one of them. If the C6 had more potential than a C5 I would have bought one.

C5ZO6 all the way. A beautiful face and a nice fat *** . C6 has a flat one and the face isn't that pretty. The other main reason I prefer the C5ZO6 is the rear window. I was never a fan of the hatch back on a Corvette. The short back window looks so much better to me. Although the C6ZO6 is just agressive enough overall for me to overlook the back window. Now if the C6ZO6 had a C5ZO rear window, well that might make the decision a little harder. Just my .02, hell its probably not even worth that.

Not a surprise what the boys over at CF think considering there's over 5 C6's for every 1 C5Z in existence. The fact is there are many more C6 owners over there than C5Z owners so it's a little biased. There are guys over there that went C5Z to C6 then back to C5Z b/c they were disappointed with the feel of the C6. Now keep in mind those are LS2s whereas I doubt many if anyone would go from an LS3 back to an LS6. I agree that the '08s are as fast as the Z but then again you're talking about a car that's going to cost quite a bit more than a used C5Z so not really a fair comparison as far as which one people would rather have. Oh and the less road noise was for a reason (less weight).

I have 2 friends with C5Z's. They are great cars. However, without a shadow of a doubt, the C6 is hands down a better car. The fit, the finish, and look of pretty much everything on the car has gone upscale. Most people who have C5Z's or like C5Z's more do so for the styling and the styling only. Thats perfectly understandable, but then don't turn around and act like the improvements the C6 makes over the C5 aren't that profound because they are enourmous. Every evolution of a car improves over the previous generation.....its a fact of life.

I find it difficult to believe that a corvette owner doesn't mention performance in his comparison of the C5Z vs C6. Did you buy your vette more for the appeal than the ability?

And your last statement about car evolution ... applies to maybe 80% of all car lineups. Especially considering manufacturers are trying to balance perforance, comfort, safety, etc

Because face it, its a corvette......it performs. Doesn't matter if its a C5 or a C6, they both kick the exotics in the nuts. My post only hit the points where the the differences can be drawn.

There are always exceptions. However, the resulting vehicle is the best combination of what the manufacturer thinks the consumer wants. In the case of the vette? More performance, better interior, improved quality, and freshened styling. They delivered.
