Corvette Advice for 24 Year Old
Hi, Im 24 and Ive been blessed with finally having the financial chance to purchase my dream car.
Coming from owning LT1 Impalas and LS1 F Bodies Im ready to take it to the next level.
Im looking to buy a pre owned C5 Z06 or C6 LS3 vette within the next year.
The thing is that Im worried about insurance, Im 24 with no tickets nor accidents on my record.I wanna get the car next year when Im 25.
I plan on buying my Corvette with upfront cash my limit is $25k and no more.
Does anyone know how much of an insurance difference it is between
350HP Base Model FRC C5
405HP C5 ZO6
LS3 C6
The thing is that I dont want to be paying a car note size insurance payment for a car I paid in cash and own.
Ive done my research as far as maintainance and fuel economy on Corvettes and like I said Ive owned and know the LT1/LS1 engines and drivetrain pretty good.
Should I buy a 350HP base C5 and mod it or just go the whole nine yards and get a C5 Z06 or C6 LS3??

well, when I went to buy an 02 they told me it was going to be 1200 a month for insurance....
the gto is 86 a month.....
the gto is considered a "touring car" the vette was considered a "sports car" with high risk since I was under 25....SOOOOOO long story short I got a newer car for the same price and pay less for it......one day I'll have my vette but right now it wasn't an option. I got quotes from 3 places in similiar territory and thats when I gave up and bought my goat. Haven't regretted it.
If it were me, and you can get better insurance (which I've been told I could have but whatever) get the C5 Z06 IMO.....just because thats what I wanted, lol.

Your insurance on a vette should be cheaper than it was on your fbody.
Vettes aren't consider high risk at all. When I had my Z28 I was paying 155 a month at 25 years old. I had a quote did for a 2005 Vette and that dropped to 115 a month.

Well first off you need to take the LS3 out of your equation if you're only going to spend $25K. That leaves you with C5Z, C5, and FRC. You might be able to find an '05 C6 (LS2) for a little more than that if you really want and look hard enough. There were some with less than 30K miles for around $30K when I was looking for my C5Z in January.
As for insurance it's not bad at all with a good record. I'm 29 and married with a perfect record and I pay $69/month for mine with full coverage and $500 deductibles. I just ran a quote through USAA and if I were to add an '02 C5 (non-Z06) then it's $59/month so not much difference between the C5 and C5Z. Of course I think USAA is a little cheaper than other insurance companies. As mentioned the easiest way to find out is get a free quote from your insurance company and others to see what they charge. What's the most you want to spend on insurance?

I just ran all 3 on USAA to see what they would cost (in my case):
'02 C5 coupe - $59/month
'02 TA/WS-6 - $56/month
'02 Z28/SS - $58/month
All of these are full coverage. So USAA sees the C5 as being a hair more expensive to ensure than the F-bods. Also funny that they charge more for the camaro than for the firebirds/trans ams.

Im 20, using USAA, My truck is $80/month for just liability, and my 02 Z06 is $80/month for full coverage and road side assistance. My own policy and my own vehicles. I was pretty surprised by the cost of insurance on the Z06

Im not sure if its your primary car but i drive and f150 as a primary and my vet (c5 z06) is csecondary. My driving record sucks (damn florida cops have no crime to catch so the are very good on writing speeding tickets) My vet was only $60 more a month to be on my policy with fullcoverage. Thanks mike

I'm 24, perfect record, good credit, married..etc..
I pay about $90 full coverage with a $250 deductible for my 02 Z06..
I was worried about the cost as well, but it ended up being LESS than my wife's lame *** Scion tC..lol
