Got picked on last night
I do but I don't. I think the build quality of a Fbody is equal to a Mustang, I just perfer the looks of the fbody. I am in NO way bashing a Mustang. Hell I could have owned anything from the lineup, but when it came to spending $40K I could not justify it in an older stang. I looked at Roushe's and Cobra's, I just felt they were a step back from MY car. From a stock Z06 they ARE NOT but I have about $17k into my car since I bought it in January and just have a tough time parting. In any case it is not about me. PM sent to explain offline
I had the exact opposite experience a couple weeks ago. Came across a friend of a friend with a pullied 480whp cobra on the highway and went from a 55 punch. I was in 2nd but he only dropped to 3rd, the result was my bolt-on car embarrassing the **** out of him

For a Cobra to pick on a Z06 thats just wrong. He must of had at least 450 whp to beat you. Maybe you both need your hearing checked. 
jk Don't feel too bad your learning still. You let him get the jump and you bogged the powerband in 3rd. This should be actually in the street section. Little more personal in the Vette section.

I have an 02 Z06 also, and definitely start in 2nd at 55 mph. Also, shift right before rev limiter at 6500. Even though the cobra had you in the HP, you weigh about 600 lbs less than he does and have better aerodynamics. You may have still gotten beat, but you would have at least given him a good run.

the lightning had to have a lot of mods. I just sold my 2000 lightning a few months ago. It had a 2.3 whipple, high-flow cats, catback, 3.73, ftvb, sct maf, injectors, pumps, and a good dyno tune. The truck was very quick esp from a stop. But from a 50-60 mph roll my 2002 c5z with a halltech would win but not by much. The lightning is heavy and made like a brick.
I second that. I have a 3.90 rear also, and it is good until 90 mph or so. Third gear with stock gearing must be good to 110+? That's a long pull from 60 mph.
