Just ran my 98 H/C stalled 390 RWHP car. Only traps 106 WTF?
I just ran my 1998 Camaro SS, A4 at Lapeer Drag-way (prolly the worst dragstrip in MI). Temp was about 65 deg. It did rain a little bit when I was there.
Here are the times:
Run 1 / Run 2 / Run 3
60 ft 2.1 2.09 2.05
1/4 ET 13.0 12.92 12.90
MPH no MPH 106.5 106.9
Here are the mods:
FRA mod
KN filter
Lid
85 mm MAF
90mm TB
Ported LS2 intake
Patriot 97-98 stage 2 CNC ported heads ( flow 292 intake, 216 exhaust @ .600 lift
Thunder racing cam 227/227 640/640 114 cam
1 3/4 stainless longtube headers
2.5 true duals, x pipe, dumped
160 thermostat
25% UD pulley
Fuddle 3300, 1.9 STR stall
3.73 gears in a 10 bolt
Rear tires are 315/35/17 nittos. Stock fuel injectors
The car Dyno'd 390 RWHP 3 months ago at Vector Motorsports (across the street from Katech) on their Mustang dyno.
Like I said it rained there. Car does have suspension mods. 17 PSI in the nitto drag radials.
I'm not worried about the times at all cause of the traction issues, but isnt that 106 MPH pretty weak for a 390 RWHP H/C/I/E car?

Yeah I would think that with your mods that the rwhp figure on a Mustang Dyno would be about right...stalled autos don't usually dyno well, but tend to make up for that at the track...Having said that, I only dyno 375 rwhp on a Mustang and trap over 121 mph...Now I'm an LT1 so some of this advice may not translate to the LS world, but I'd look at more stall and more gear with your set up...But I'd have to see your dyno graph to see where you make peak torque and hp...and I'm not a fan of Fuddle converters as they are not very efficient and have had issues over the years...
Still, based on the dyno numbers, something obviously is not right...My ex-wifes 2000 A4 SS trapped 106 with 4.10s and an SLP lid in lousy weather...

does the car still feel as fast as it did just after the dyno tune? if not make sure everything is plugged in and secure like your injector connections/spark plug wires and any spark plugs arnt loose.
my 405rwhp auto went 12.6@110mph my first pass but i realized something was up because it didnt really pull. I ended up finding a lose plug wire, after that i went 11.62@117.9mph.
Before my dyno tune my car was also a dog, got edged out by a stock evo on the top end of a street race (appx 1/4 mile distance) went in for a tune and put down 275rwhp unlocked, tuner trouble shooted for a while and found a lose injector wire, put down 400+ the next pulls.
another thing, both of my cars in my sig had and have Fuddle converters and im not impressed. even my current H/C 3400lb auto with a 4000 fuddle stall struggled to pull off 1.7 60fts

1) Make sure your shift points are not screwed up. If you suspect they are, can you manually shift a few times to see what the car does.
2) If the shift points are good something is amiss.
Where do you make peak hp?

Thanks, I wish I would have tried manually shifting. Traction was horrible. The tuner should have gotten the shift points right, but I do suspect they could be off. I will try that next time.
When you get over 6K RPMS, its hard to shift at the right time and avoid the limiter

Your tune is also suspect. Torque control may not have been changed by your tuner. But, you are not getting traction so that also needs to be addressed. Are you new the drag strip?

This car did run 7.8 in the 1/8th mile with a 1.7 60' in October 2008 minus the LS2 intake, 90mm TB and underdrive pulley and the tune

Torq should be much higher. Saw this happen before with a friend of mine. Built his car and got beat by close to stock vehicles. Have tuner check that the torq mngmt system is off.

Car makes peak HP @ 6500-6600 RPM.

#2, if your peak power is at 6500-6600, your shift points should be set at 6700-6800 at least.

Dude, lapeer is not that bad. I cut 1.42-1.44 60's there in my trans am. I like the hill billy track,if I can hook there,I can hook anywhere. I'll be going when things cool off next month. Your 60's are real bad. And I myself have not been inpressed with the patroit heads from past car's at the track. Your cam could be better too. You should come out with me when I go to the track next month,You can try my slicks. Let me know, maybe I can help. I also go to the same dyno(kirk) and with 380hp I was running 12.1. Now I dyno over 500hp on it.

I only suggest manually shifting an A4 just to see if the shift points are off in the pcm. I had the same problem years ago, went 12.4@108. Shifted by hand... 11.7@114. Went ahead and fixed my shift points.

Oh yeah, tomorrow I will be going to Milan to see if this was just a fluke, or my car is really this slow.

I just ran the car at the track again.... Same low 106 MPH....
This time I ran at Milan dragway (much better than Lapeer)
Run 1 Run 2
60ft: 1.76 1.93
1/8 ET: 7.8 8.1
1/8 MPH: 87.5 87.1
1/4 ET: 12.40 12.76
1/4 MPH: 106.8 106.3
I cleaned the air filter between this trip at the track and the last time as well as checking all of the TR55 spark plugs. They all looked great and I reset the gap at about .52
There was an LS2 GTO there, M6 with heads and cam. STOCK LS2 intake and he ran 12.1 at 117 MPH - So I dont think my ported LS2 intake is the problem.
My guess is the problem is either the tune or the Fuddle converter. I am sure it is one of the two.....
