SCSN Las Vegas Street Challenge Wrap Up
We went a ran our car at the Street Car Super Nationals this weekend in Las Vegas in the Street Challenge Class. Basically the rules for this class is you have to run a 255/60/15 Street tire radial design. No drag radials etc.
Got into Vegas Thursday night and from there it is just a blur. We had 2 qualifiers Friday and Saturday and then eliminations on Sunday. We ended up qualifying #8 out of 16 cars with a 10.02 at 140 mph and felt really good about our chances knowing we had more in the car. #1 qualifier was a 9.67@ 147 mph but he only did that once.
Well sunday came and the wind was in full effect and so were the oil downs, before we got to first round the event had been shortened to 1/8 mile. We were fine with this with our lack of power and realy goood early numbers. We put a tuneup in it and got a bye first round due to breakage and went 6.52 in the 1/8. 3rd quickest in the round and only 2 hundreths behind the #1 qualifier who we had in second round and felt really good. I knew I could after it more early and we could get bye him. 2nd round we came up I left on him and we were on our best pass of the weekend by far and out in front till about 500 feet where he nosed by me and got us by 5 hundreths of a second. :bugeyed:
Unfortunately he went his best of the weekend and with the 5mph advantage he was able to come around us up top. Our neighbor with a car that ran the same numbers of us all weekend ended up going all the way and getting the win, so that was nice to know and we could have won the damn thing but it just didnt go our way. With at most 10 passes on these tires we went out and were competitive with the cars that have all season on them. Went faster every round like we usually do and had a great time. Next year we will get one. These street tires work.
Huge thanks to Dynojet Research Inc, Force Fed Performance for taking care of our nitrous, Don, Greg, HSW, FTI Converters, Eric G.,NX,Theo Dec@ Wizard Racing, and many many more. Most of all, my Pops and crew Larry. You guys rock.
We wanted a 9 on those tires and it had an .80 in it. Should go .30's with the tuneup in it right now on the big tires.
Cliffnotes:
10.02@140 1.66 sixty foot on a true 255 street tire
6.3x to 6.4x with a 1.5x sixty foot in the 1/8 but the timing system messed up so we will never know

Congrats Cam! I was rooting for you all weekend and wish we could have been there. I had no doubt you would figure out those tires and make them work. It's great seeing you and your dad work together and I can tell how proud he is of you. Thanks again for sharing the track rental. How did those nitrous bottles work out for you?
