It's hard on the clutch but with a stock geared M6 it's the only way to get off the line without bogging.

The first time I went to the track a few years back I was doing the exact thing as you. Running it up to 2k and dropping the clutch, all that gave me was 2.1 60 foot times, spinning and/or bogging off of the line. The first time I slipped the clutch as I mentioned above I noticed a huge improvement in times. I've gone 1.89 on street tires doing it that way and you should best that being on DR's so give it a try!
thanks man, i will try this....i don't race very often, but i think the spec 2+ could handle a few slips off the line

From what understand, nittos don't need to be heated up too much to help hook. I would set your tires at about 17lbs and work you way down to 14lbs. During that time you keep launching the same way. Spend one trip playing with just tire pressure with a nearly same launch. I'd say to try launching at 1800-2000 rpms. If you spin, don't change the rpms, change the tire pressure. As the car begins to "hook" up better, and it will, you need to keep track of every timeslip you get. When you get the Timeslip, you need to write on it, what tire pressure you have and what RPM you left at.

So the first trip is for the Tire pressure (remember to do about the same burnout on those tires. Not long, maybe 3-4 seconds of spinning).

The trip after that, you should then focus on RPM only. Using the best tire pressure you had the week before in similar weather, and doing the same burnout, start your launches at 2000rpms up 4000rpms.

It helps to have someone out there with a temp gun to check how hot the tires are. You should probably only want them to be at 170-210 degrees.

Hope this helps. This method really helps me a lot.

cool, i will pay attention to the pressure more......i was told by a fellow racer that 555r's wear evenly at 25psi on the street, 30psi will make the centers wear faster.....when i raced, i dropped them to 20psi, but didn't go any lower.....i've always read that 555r's have to be ROASTED to hook at the track, but do great on the street....either way, i will try everything suggested....thanks

My LS7 clutch has close to 100 passes on it slipping the clutch and it still holds great so I wouldn't be concerned at all. It's also a good way to keep your 10-bolt alive with an M6, dumping the clutch off the line with DR's = not good

Pretty much what I run in the 1/8 simply because I can't lay on it right away with bald tires. It gets me 13.2s

( First time I ever ran... its my first quick car too)

Like I mentioned in my previous post, don't dump the clutch. Hold the rpms to around 4k and just slip the clutch out of the hole. You will be able to get a feel on how fast you will be able to release the clutch while still keeping traction. Does that make sense? It takes practice, but after the first time you do it you will understand what I mean. Heating up your tires and practicing on an open road is a good idea so you don't spend 5 passes at the track working on it.

I'm by no means a pro, but that's what has worked best for me on street tires with both 3.42's and 4.10's.

This video kind of shows what I mean. When you have a car with taller gears ( 4.10's or less) and street tires it's tough to get the car off the line without completely bogging the car down or spinning. Slipping the clutch takes care of that when done right:

Back when I was a 6 speed and bolt ons I was able to get a 8.31 on street tires 1.91 60ft and 89mph. Then I slapped a 9" under it and ran a 7.8@91 leaving like a **** at around 6k. But as a few said, if your on the 10bolt still, slip the clutch, about the only way you'll get anyting decent

With those times in the 1/8th, I would think your car would run faster than a 12.0 in the 1/4.

To be fair my best was 1/8 at 8.601 -resulting in a 13.290
