8.5 in 1/8 first time to track??????
i went to the local track earlier this summer and i turned out an 8.5.....a few cars later, this guy in an lt1 runs an 8.5 and i'm thinking, "i've got an ls1, i should be at least a little faster, right?"......this is my first "quick" car and i know i have alot to learn.....the car moves well once i get going, but from what i've read i'm nervous to launch it hard because of the DR's and 10 bolt.....what do you guys think, what should i do different and what kind of times should i be turning in an 1/8 mile with just bolt ons?....thanks in advance

What was the MPH? That would be more indicative of what kind of power you're making. As is, with a perfect launch, and a 1.6ish 60' should get you under 8.0 at the 8th which would end up somewhere in the high 12's in the quarter. That's about all you can ask from your combo without adding more power or reducing weight.

I have a bolt on car with drag radials and it 60 fts in the 1.51-1.56 range pulling the wheels, and my 1/8 mile times are 7.5-7.6 ish @ 87-88 mph, 1/4 mile times are 12.0s and 12.1s

Stock ten bolt with 4.10s. Only suspension mods are LCAs and SFCs. I've beaten some h/c/i cars out there and the guys that drive them are speechless at how my car leaves lol

the lt1 probably had a cold air kit and a catback. They are always pretty close in the 1/8 mile ....1/4 mile is where the ls does its damage to a lt car w/ similar mods as ls. When you get to the heavy hitter LTX cars h/c 383/396 then you got a different story

How are you leaving out of the hole? RPM, slipping the clutch, etc...
i dunno, i don't really have a proven method....i know i need more practice....i tried to hold at 1800rpm and dump it,(not on the run in the video) but my 555r's weren't heated up enough and i just spun at the line......the next time i'm going to try a second gear burnout, get the tires really hot, and slip the clutch at about 3k rpm.....

The first time I went to the track a few years back I was doing the exact thing as you. Running it up to 2k and dropping the clutch, all that gave me was 2.1 60 foot times, spinning and/or bogging off of the line. The first time I slipped the clutch as I mentioned above I noticed a huge improvement in times. I've gone 1.89 on street tires doing it that way and you should best that being on DR's so give it a try!

Honestly, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the words "Tire Pressure" to you. Did you even drop the tire pressure at all? From what understand, nittos don't need to be heated up too much to help hook. I would set your tires at about 17lbs and work you way down to 14lbs. During that time you keep launching the same way. Spend one trip playing with just tire pressure with a nearly same launch. I'd say to try launching at 1800-2000 rpms. If you spin, don't change the rpms, change the tire pressure. As the car begins to "hook" up better, and it will, you need to keep track of every timeslip you get. When you get the Timeslip, you need to write on it, what tire pressure you have and what RPM you left at.
So the first trip is for the Tire pressure (remember to do about the same burnout on those tires. Not long, maybe 3-4 seconds of spinning).
The trip after that, you should then focus on RPM only. Using the best tire pressure you had the week before in similar weather, and doing the same burnout, start your launches at 2000rpms up 4000rpms.
It helps to have someone out there with a temp gun to check how hot the tires are. You should probably only want them to be at 170-210 degrees.
Hope this helps. This method really helps me a lot.
