Took down some LS1's with my LT1
Took down some LS1's tonight at Thompson Raceway Park. Some of you guys were probably there. Traction was horrible. There were about 2 mostly stock, and 3 or 4 full bolt on LS1 Camaros and Trans Ams. The fastest of the bunch was at 13.0@109 (full bolt ons, 6 speed, MT ETs, 02 Z28). My best on the night was 12.9@109 on a 2.05 sixty. Just had a dyno tune and best before that was 12.6@108. I was overall happy the way I stacked up.
My car is an A4 LT1 with most bolt ons, stock heads, stock intake manifold, stock bottom end, with a mismatched 306 cam. DA was around 2800 I was told
AI cam and a cutout are in my future.

Thanks! haha
I was surprised none of the full bolt on ones, even then M6 cars could out trap me either. The car is running fairly well. I want a cam with a better powerband though. Just to hold me over until I can put together the procharged stroker I've been planning.

Last time I was at the track I was pulling 1.7 and 1.8 short times all day. Of all the LS1 f-bodies I ran against, the best 60' they had was 1.99. My best was 2.05. I'm happy that at least I have the car hitting 12's without needing a good 60 to do it. I'm hoping for some better prep next time so I can get a new PB. It just doesn't hook at Thompson. I tried with 30psi and I tried with 20 and 18psi. Big burnout and small tire cleanings. No water box. I even left off idle every single time. The only cars that I saw hooking up last night where running full slicks with a modded suspension or they were pretty much stock.
I'm contemplating a switch to the AI 226/234 cam and adding a cutout. Haven't decided yet what will be next.

However, there was a nice Orange 2004 Mach 1 running 12.8-12.9@109. It was running very well!

They were hooking better than I was and I still ran better. If I would have pulled the 1.7's (or maybe even better) like I did last time I would have at least been 12.4, if not better. Once I get this 60 consistantly under control and get some good DA I should have no problem scaring the **** out of 11's. Add in the cutout I just ordered and some skinnies with lightweight wheels and I'm there.

Thompson NEVER hooks on wednesday nights, they just dont prep the track real well, Even when they do the street tire cars tear it up, Show up on a saturday and its a little different.

Street tire cars generally go into the waterbox and do huge burnouts. I try to tell them otherwise but their 14 second car apparently needs to lay down some water and tire grease in order to make sure they don't end up needing a helmet, haha. Last time I was there it was about 3400 DA, 88 degrees on a Sunday and I was pulling 1.7s and 1.8s launching from idle. They were separating street tires from DRs too which was cool.

I don't have the TB yet, and my 13.5 was at 105.5 I could sure use some tires, the 245's really spin on the 1-2 shift. Knowing that a full bolt on M6 with slicks trapped 109 makes me feel a little better, seems like the speeds at Thompson are 3-4 mph slower than what everyone else runs with the same mods.
The OP's car runs pretty good and sounds great.

I agree, Thompson is not a fast track. But there are a lot of posted times that were run in cold weather at low elevation from other members, which can be misleading. 2800 was the best DA I've ever had at thompson. Too bad it had to come on a Wednesday.

Before I had the car dyno'd, I ran a 12.6@108 with a 1.72 60'. This was on a special test and tune sunday. The DA was 3400 and temp was 88, but I was able to get some decent E.T.s because of all the animal cars and good prep. I figure if I go again on a saturday or sunday I'll try launching at a higher RPM. Right now I launch from idle (800rpm) and was still able to pull a 1.7-1.8's.
I'll be heading back to the track tomorrow, and I'm just going to line up behind the animal cars every run.
If anyone else is able, you should head over to Thompson tomorrow night. I'll be there around 5:30pm.
