hrcslam don't put any money into the 10 bolt. You spend $600 now and then it breaks anything it's going to be $300 to $600 more and thats with you doing the work, all money pissed away. I know because I did it. I've got a 4.10, solid pinion, girdled 10 bolt sitting on the garage floor that needs a posi unit.....I said F-it and bought a S60. Best money I've ever spent on the car. M/T ET streets at the track and no worries on the street.

A few things I have gathered from this thread and other I made.
First is that the 10 bolt will break, when not if. But, it can take more abuse than advertised more often than not. Some guys cutting 1.4 60' times aint no joke.
Second is that beefing up the 10 bolt does help, a lot. But it still will break. The 7.5" has all the weak points of a rear axle rolled in to one unit. Making some of those points stronger does help. But not all points can be strengthened.
Third is, because of one and two, don't put money into it; so I won't. I can get an 8.8 from the wrecking yard for $120, with some savy shopping and custom axles and a good facbricator/welder I can have a bolt in 8.8 with Traction Lock , 4.10's, on a Hiltsy mount for $600-800. Not too shabby me thinks. And that is the route I am going with it too.
Thanks for all the input guys!
