Default First time at track in 2000 SS

Wife and I went to the dragstrip in Steele Friday night. Neither one of us had been in about 10 years. Was kind of strange heading that way at nearly 9pm(when we are usually about ready to turn in for the evening). We mainly went to do something different and we certainly succeeded. Friday night was "Test and Tune". I ended up making two passes. First one was 13.60 @ 101.78 mph. Second pass was 13.80 @101.05 mph. I spun off the line on the second pass. 30psi in rear tires. I'll lower them to 25 next time.

I've never really done any racing (at the dragstrip) and it was a fun experience for both of us.

2000 Camaro SS AT4 stock except Lid and Magnaflow muffler. Car has 192K but new trans at 170K.

My numbers are for the "grey" car.

Steele is a **** hole, especially on Friday nights lol. I have much better luck at Montgomery or Lassiter mountain. That's great that you could convince the wife to go!

A friend of mine said the same thing about Steele, but I don't really have anything to compare it to. We live in Albertville, AL and Montgomery is too far. Baillyton is close to us and I've heard good things about it but its only 1/8th mile. They were also closed on Friday because they were installing new guard rail.

1/8th mile racing is where it's at.

Hit up jakes drag strip in moulton.

1/8 mile is that little bump you hit on the way to the 1/4 mile right?

Real men get it done in the 1/8. The 1/8 has more to do with setup than just horsepower.

LOL, yep, pretty sure I did the 1/8 mile twice in one pass.

Jacks looks like a nice track but still nearly an hour and a half from me. I'll likely try Baileyton next time and see if it tickles my fancy.

I can tell you one thing, no doubt that a stick is more fun to drive but I was glad I had the auto at the track. My car has lower times than cars that I know had more power. I saw Challenger RT's, new 5.0 Mustangs that barely got into the 13's. I found it grossly satisfying to know that I could take them with the relatively small investment I have in the Camaro.

Now all you need is a converter/trans cooler and bolt ons. Youll be flying then.

Yep, it has began. I removed my entire Air pump system tonight and found a LS6 intake for $300.

That's what I hear. It was a tough decision what to do first, but I found a LS6 intake for $300 shipped(Mr Big) and had to jump on it. Headers and exhaust will come next followed by a tune.

Trans cooler is definately on my short list. It seems to me that TC should go hand in hand with DR's. Or will the car still get off the line OK with street tires?

Your street tires will be absolutely worthless

I appreciate the brutal honesty. I've had many folks talk about stall being the best upgrade but no one mentuoned not getting full benifit till you get DRs. Makes sense to me though.
