Took my car to the track for the first time since I got it running its a 98 camaro with a 5.3 headers ory slp lid 3800 stall stock tune and Hoosier slicks did a 13.68 at 102

something is wrong. 5.3 in a 4th gen with headers , stall ,and sticky tires should be easily in the 12's and making enough power to trap 110 + or -

not trying to bust ***** here but that would be slow for any stock 4th gen v8 car.

can you post up your time slip so we can help you isolate where the problems were?

Stock tune is part of the problem, but this car should be running closer to a 12 than a 14... Does the OP have HPT or another way to datalog? I also can't wait to see the timeslip.

No way to data log and it was my first time ever on a track so i not I wasn't driving it as well as it could do and yea I know reaction time is horrible

60foot is not very good and under 80 mph 1/8 trap is slow , you picked up 22mph on the back half which isn't terrible so I think getting your 60 foot and 1/8 mile in general cleaned up will improve your et quite a bit.


My personal approach with your stalled car on a sticky tire would be decent burnout till you see smoke , shallow stage ( just barely get the 2nd stage light on) and flash the stall from idle vs. holding it up against the brakes , look to the end of the track when staging to make sure you start out pointed to the end for less steering corrections and be sure to stay into it past the traps dnt let out early. Start with as cold a car as possible ( just coming off of flat is perfect when hitting the staging area )and set a go pro cell phone or something to video your gauges since you don't have a way to data log to see if your short shifting , running hot , low voltage etc... next time out then share that video on here so we can try to help you out.


reaction time will not effect et so no worries there but you should easily be able to leave on the 3rd yellow shallow staged and get that more in reason as well.

track was using a pro tree so only one yellow light flash and that was flash stalling but thanks for the other tips

Have you done any basic maintenance? Plugs? Wires? Fuel filter? Air Filter? Etc? A healthy LS1 with long tubes, catback, lid, filter would trap 108-109. I'd expect a similarly modded 5.3 to be close, or at least a heckuva lot closer than 102.
