Default Humbling first time out

Milan, my local track, had it’s opening day test and tune yesterday, so I took the bird out to see what I could do. This was my first time ever racing this car, and 14 years since I’d last been down the 1320. I was able to get 3 runs in before the staging lanes were super long, and while I was not able to put together one truly clean pass, I’ll call the day a small victory in that I was able to start getting comfortable with everything again, even though my results are far from good, haha!

My cleanest pass started with a bogging 2.039 60’ and ended with a 12.095 at 120.42 mph. The low rpm launch really hurt the time, but my slow and steady shifting didn’t help. I was able to get a 1.9 60’ later in the day, but then I missed 4th for the second time. Seriously, who misses 4th!? The other missed gear was obviously where I trapped 112.

Here are the slips and an embarrassing video for you all.

TFS 220 heads, 226/234 cam, and all the intake and exhaust goodies. Car is heavy though...full weight with a 9". I didn't remove anything at the track, not even the spare or cd changer.

We chatted for a little while in the staging lanes before my last run. Your car was running good! I agree, the track was fantastic. If my driving were only equally as good, LOL!

Around 6800. It makes peak power just shy of 6500. But really doesn't fall off up to 7000.

Dude you need to be launching that thing at 6000 or its going to bog like a ****. My car is probably 150-200 pounds lighter, making more power presumably and it it still bogs leaving at 6000

No doubt. Need to get a tire that can handled it first. I spun the crap out of the 18" drag radials trying a 4K launch. My best mph was a bogging 3500 rpm launch. Best 60' was a bogging 3000 launch. Not much room to play on these tires. I'm also losing a ton of time and speed shifting so slowly. I have a lot to work on.

I'm considering dropping another 100 pounds. Just not sure how much I'm willing to sacrifice.

The bog/spin problem is not so much your tires as it is your RXT, as it will draw around 1000ftlbs unless you manage the hit.
I'm guessing your engine puts out maybe 500, but the other 500 of that 1000ftlb hit comes from inertia being pulled out of it's rotating assy.
Reduce the clutch hit to around 750ftlbs and there would be less tendency to spin the radials, which would enable a higher rpm launch. The bog rate of the engine would also be roughly cut in half so the engine would also make more power thru the low point of the bog.

Basically the more closely the clutch hit is matched to the engine, the higher the launch rpm can be. Also the engine won't get drawn down as far, so it will make higher average power.
