Default G5X4 results (Video added)

Now I know why the term "shakedown runs" exists. It just takes a little bit of practice to get used to new setups.

I was starting to get bummed out and regretting swapping to a TH350 and even contemplated putting the 4L60E back in. Footbrake launches were slower despite also switching to a 8" converter and a bigger and badder cam. Off the t-brake I would either spin or bog or hop or you name it. I wasn't impressed and I was wondering if the G5X4 had the torque to get me out of the hole. We also considered maybe I need to go to 4.30 gears.

Then a couple friends suggested I put the gas peddle to the floor before letting go of the button. So that's exactly what I did and to my surprise I dead hooked and saw sky for a split second. Apparently I got at least two feet of air under the front tires that launch. T'was very nice.

Unfortunately I couldn't duplicate that launch the rest of the night despite playing with the Hal adjustments. Track prep wasn't the greatest.

However, on my last pass I went back to the footbrake but stalled as high as I could (3500+). It seemed to like the higher stall and sixty footed almost as good as the 4L60E used to. I got excited and shifted early on the 2-3 shift (6300 instead of 6700) but still ran a new best of 11.16 @ 120.4 w/ 1.54 short despite a DA of 1700'.

Now if I can just get my suspension dialed in and hook up off the t-brake again, I think a 10.9 might be possible this summer. If not, definitely this Fall.

Nice runs! When you compare the G5X4 run to the C1 the mph wasn't much better (most likely due to the converter not locking up), but it looks like the car did a lot better on the big end with the better ET. I bet the G5X4 pulls a lot harder than the C1 in the high rpm range. I'm sure once you get used to the new trans you'll have that car hooking just as well as the A4.

That G5X4 is an impressive cam. I've been thinking about swapping out my TSP 231/237 for one.

Congrats had no doubt that you would figure it out with a little more time behind the wheel. Now get it to hook on the T-break and bring those 60's into the 1.4's

What did the 1/8 mile look like?

Wayt to go Derrick! Yup, there is a reason why they are called shakedown runs. Once you get your suspension figured out and go on a better prepped day, I am sure you will eclipse that 10.9 barrier.

Thanks guys.

The C1 cam time was in -250' DA so this setup is close to 3 tenths and 2.5 mph better than the C1 cam/4L60E setup. Corrected to 0' DA, my time is 10.96 @ 122.4. And that's with a botched up 2-3 shift otherwise I might have been on an 11.0x run.

1/8 mile was 7.07 @ 95.8 mph I believe.

I'm not sure if I'm going next Tuesday or not but I think I might go to Midnight Madness this Friday. How do you think the track prep will be? If it's not going to be any better than Tuesdays then I probably won't go. I'd like to go on a Wednesday night. That is when the track prep is usually the best.

What's your new setup consist of?

didn't have your foot to the floor with the transbrake? sorry, that's kinda amusing bro

congrats though, that's flying for cam only...what kinda raceweight you looking at?

starting point to figure out gears would be what rpm are you crossing the traps at in 3rd?

I tried the t-brake at various throttle positions from half throttle to 90% throttle, then immediately after I let off the button I would go 100% WOT. I just didn't know you were supposed to go 100% WOT before letting off the button. This t-brake stuff is new to me.

I'm close to 3300 lbs, maybe a tad less.

Early on I was crossing the traps around 6300 but towards the end of the night when I was trapping in the 120's I was crossing close to 6500, so 4.30's would probably be too much gear.

Sounds like your starting to figure it out more and you will the more you go to the track. Impressive ET's for summer time air i might add

Well i took the big cam plunge and im going to start hitting the track more in a few weeks after we get the tuning under control. It's aggrevating at first but once it starts to fall into place it gets fun not knowing the limits of a new setup

Didn't get to talk to you after your last pass-nice run. I think a two step will help you out on the transbrake. Ever thought of putting more gear in the car and a taller tire?

I always love a new best on a shakedown night-it has a ton more in it w/ tuning and a 90mm intake/tb-lets not forget about that .000 light earlier in the night.

Thanks Travis. I'm going to Midnight Madness tonight. Hoping to get 3 or 4 quick passes in before it gets too crowded. Thanks for the help on Tuesday!

I do have a set of 28" slicks wrapped on 15x7 Convo Pros sitting in my garage. I could get some 4.30's and try them out but I think I'll stick with the 27" and 4.10's for now. I'm going to get some relocation brackets and set the lca's on the bottom hole and see if I can't dead hook everytime off the t-brake like I can when I foot brake. Actually, I'll make that my goal this year, to be able to dead hook every time even on a Tuesday night launching off the t-brake. That'd be the ****.

I'd try the 28" tires with the current gear setup-on the t-brake of course. The midnight madness was awesome for most tonight-I'll let Derrick post with the details

Run1: 11.10 @ 120.82 w/ 1.49 dead hook off the t-brake
Run2: 11.28 @ 120.92 w/ 1.62 t-brake spinning
Run3: 11.09 @ 121.95 w/ 1.58 t-brake spinning
Run4: 11.03 @ 121.65 w/ 1.50 dead hook off the foot brake

Also broke the 7 second barrier in the 1/8, went a 6.990 @ 97.12 on that last pass.

I was pleasantly surprised by my foot brake sixty-foot. This converter just really likes to be stalled high (3650 RPM).

Only Run3 did I hit my shifts right. The other three runs I either shifted too late or too early on at least one of the shifts. I really need a shift light. Going by feel and the stock tach just isn't going to be consistent enough. Plus my LTFT's were +8 the first three passes. I adjusted my MAF table before my last run and I ended up getting 3.7* KR from launch tapering to 0.5 by the end of 3rd gear. Timing was only 23.5* to 28* that pass so I'm sure the car has 10's in it with a better tune and good shifts.

Awsome man! With some tweaking on the tune and nailing your shifts you should dip well into the 10s.

Man you got me wanting to go try my new setup out this friday night but the DA down here is in the upper +2000 already

Thanks guys. Still feels slow to me. Maybe I need to get more mods.

Here's video of runs 1 and 4.
