Default Slow times, WTF?

hey guys

my raceway was rented out tonight, i got 17 passes in. My best run was only a 13.97!!! most of them were 14.1-14.2!!!!

I'm so pissed off!

I've got a 2002 WS6, Borla, M6

I was launching at 1500, and then moved up to 2000rpm. tire pressure at 25psi. What the hell?! I must have been spinning like a *****. It didn't feel like it, but just felt slow off the line. I'm afraid to launch too high cuz i'll spin and i need my stock clutch and rear end to last

my best speed was 105mph, that should be like a lower 13. tips? I'm pissed!!!

I got headers and juice on the way.

do you have a timeslip with any information? that would help pinpoint your problem. 13.9 @ 105 would be a little tirespin, but...that car should (at the very least) trap 106 mph. i've always ran less than 20 psi in my STREET tires at the track and launched no higher than 2,000 with an m6 (i had a charged lt1 m6). if you're trying to save your stock clutch and rearend, spraying isn't going to help you at all, fyi. just read off your timeslip and maybe someone can help you find your problem.

A 105 trap is good for low 13's. No offense, but you need to learn how to drive. It just takes practice. Break down a timeslip for us, 60', 330', 1/8th et and mph, 1000', and 1/4 et and mph. It sounds like your car has the power, you just need to make use of it. Also, what RPM were you shifting at?

Hey Matt,
You must have been running just regular street tires? Your MPH is great so I would guess your problems are mostly in your 60'. Once you get more seat time in the car better times will follow. Don't be to afraid to play with the way you launch the car alittle and I would be banging gears alittle higher than 5,500rpm. Our tachs have been know to lag alittle so if your shifting at 5,500rpm there is a good chance that the motor is twisting less than that.

Other way around, if he's showing 5500 when he shifts he's probably spinning closer to 5800. We have slow tach's that have trouble keeping up.
Try shifting when the tach is at 5800.

Yeah I wasn't thinking straight. My boss always tells me I don't start using my head until like noon. Guess he's right.

Thanks guys!

I'm not really mad (now) that i didn't get low 13's, but with my mph I know it CAN be there. Thats really good enough for me. I just like to race every once and awhile. It woulda just have been nice to show the slip to someone talking ****, instead of my 13.9 lol

but yes, i'm running street tires, the original factory ones, which are getting sorta low on tread. I also wasn't banging gears to hard either, i could have shifted quicker. When I did try it, i missed 3rd so I said the hell with it for now lol. Oh and my crappy RT's didn't help either, I was too busy watcing the tach and the bastard already started the tree! lol my best was a .039 though. I'll practice it all on the street
here are my times, first my best e.t., then top mph
RT .817
60' 2.218
330' 6.033
1/8 9.13
mph 79.84
1000' 11.756
1/4 13.979
mph 101.79

top speed:
RT .474
60' 2.456
330' 6.422
1/8 9.530
mph 81.90
1000' 12.210
1/4 14.436
mph 104.90

Yep the 60's are killing you. Get some sticky tires, once you get them down in the 1.8 range you'll be movin.

Your RT won't hurt your time, the clock doesn't start till after you pass the beams. You can sit there all day and the clock won't start. Wow 2.4 60', for every tenth you take of the 60', it's about .15-.20 tenths off your quarter. Try getting a 2.0 on that bad boy. Low 13s easy.

You can get a 2.0 with the M6 on street tires, maybe even a 1.9 if you can You have to practice your launch with the stick. And you don't need to use the burn out box with street tires, water will just get in your tread and wheelwell and make things worse.

i need to practice on "power shifting"

so when i do that and slam through the gears, i've been missing 3rd. I need more practice but would an aftermarket shifter really help that much? i have the factory hurst

i was reading and seems to be mixed reviews on the aftermarkets and the hurst

I slip at 3500 on my GTO. Cut's 2.0's with no problem. More heat in the tires and better track prep would probably get me in the low 1.9's.
