Default First Time at the Track

Well tonight was my first time at the track with my 00 WS6. I was running some near bald worn out Goodyear Eagle F1s. My take offs were either babied or the tires went up in smoke. Here are my results.

First run: horrible start, no burn out to kick the pebbles off, left it in overdrive.
14.087 @ 105.948, 2.6 60 ft

Best run: babied start, little burn out to kick off pebbles, manual shifting not going over 6k
13.456 @ 107.305, 2.2 60 ft.

I want 12's bad, but with my stall converter the launches are pretty difficult (I will need moer practice).

Any suggestions on DOT street tires that are good on the track?? Any people with A4s that have suggestions technique?

DO NOT SHIFT MANUALLY! It's a 4l60E for a reason. Leave the car in D or OD (i've heard you will get slightly quicker/firmer shifts in OD), and let the computer do the shifting. Get yourself a set of Nitto drag radials, they are DOT and will last a while if you don't roast them everywhere you go. Heat the tires up real good at the track, stall it up to about 1200-1500 the roll into it quickly and let the tires do their thing.

At what RPM does your cam peak....i am thinking you are leaving some ET and MPH on the table by not taking it over 6K rpm's.

I have to double check my dyno sheet and tune, but I believe the cam pulls to 6250 and the rev limiter is set at 6400.

I heard you have to heat up the Nittos pretty good in order for them to hook up. I don't know if thats true.

Anyone running MT Street ET radials. Any experience with them at the drag strip?

I've heard that the MT radials will hook as good as an ET street, but you don't get the wobble on the big end. If your cam peaks around 6200 you need set your shift points around 6400. If 6250 is where is falls off then i would shift a little before 6300. Nitto's do need to be heated up pretty well to hook, but they also last a lot longer on the street.

Remove the front sway bar , and get some MT drag radials and like bluesix said do not manually shift , your car will shifter faster and better leaving it in D..
