Quest for a 9 second 346 6 speed with nitrous continues...
Last night we headed down to MIR for a street car race. Sam and I met up with Bruce Row and a couple of other F-body/Y body guys to take advantage of the night. The air was crisp but the track prep was minimal. There was about 8 million imports and a handful of 9 second trailer queens. I was soo confident that my car was going to run the big number I failed to check the little things. First run, lined up and did a nice burnout. You could tell that there was zero track prep as the car glided across the launch pad. If I had walked the track like I normally do I would have chosen a different tire pressure. Lined up the the car in the best groove and staged. Lights came down and I took a deep breath almost sure this was going to be the run. Lights dropped, revs creeped up to 6000, engine is screaming. Clutch slips out and the nitrous comes on. The car spun violently to about 300', 2nd gear came around very quickly. 60' 1.55(normally 1.40) Run the gear out and tried shift to 3rd and had a brain fart. Missed 3rd gear big time. Finally got the tranny into 3rd and ran it out. 10.3 @ 135. We went back to the pits to take a peek at the data acquisition because the car felt really soft. The timing was only 22 degrees where I normally run 26-28 and the air to fuel was 10.0:1 on the big end.
We made a tire pressure change and removed 10% of fuel and waited for the next round. There was still questions about why the car was soo rich but we lined the car up again. Did a decent sized burnout to heat up the M/T. Lined up in the groove and staged again. Lights came down and slipped the clutch out @ 6200 on the spray. Tires spun again to a 1.49 60'. Hit the gears and ran it out. 2nd gear went quick and once it was in 3rd I noticed it was surging slightly. Hit 4th and still surging. 10.2 @ 135. We get back to the pits and pull the data acquisition soft ware up to see the air to fuel was still 10.1-9.9. I hit the purge to check the nitrous lines to see that the bottle was basically empty. Stupid me forgot to fill the bottle. Oh well, I guess it will have to wait until next week. See you guys soon.

Thanks guys! Going 9s in a 346 C5 with only a 150 shot has proven to be somewhat of a challenge. Looking over the logs friday I was shifting @ 7700 RPM's and looking at the A/F and comparing it to other runs where the bottle had 4-5 passes on it, its got alot to pickup.

Phil. How are you getting your car to rev to 7700 rpm's? On mine, 6900 is about the max. To ensure to finish the 1/4 without bouncing off the rev limiter, I'm having to step down to 3.73 (from 4.30) on 30" Hoosiers - setting up for the 200 or 250 shot. Is you engine a forged bottom-end?
