Default Swapping with TH350(What to expect)

A month ago with same DA ran 12.32 12.36 12.37 on same night with fast 90/90 and trex. heads are stock, cleaned up a bit,but with stock valve sizes

Last night with about the same weather ran 12.58 and 12.48 I think I might have ran bad because I upped the fuel and timing with my programmer because I even shed 120pds off the car and still ran bad. I don't know what went wrong. DA that night was 4144 at 4000ft of elevation weather was the same as before. On my last pass I blew off the tranny cooler line and lost about a gallon of oil and did not get to run another pass.

Keep in mind that I am at 4000ft of DA and I am running this setup with stock programmer tuning only I have not had a chance to Mail order tune much less Dynotune. I am hitting rev limiter at least 6 times from 2-3 shift and i am only shifting at 6500 rpms or 6600 Rpms which the programmer only allows. This is a stock 4L60E with 3500 converter and 4.56 gears.

I am sick of this tranny and PLANNING A TH350! w/transbrake and about a 5000stall converter. Lets say my tuning is the same as running 12.3's how much more should I expect to gain if at all through the Th350 w5000stall and tranny brake.

Another Ls1 with MS3 cam and 205 AFr heads with M6 was running 12.01 and 12.04 that night. Lost to him in final round at a charity shootout because of low tranny oil due to a spill.

From M6 to TH350 I dropped .3. It would have been more but I need to get past the mental block that I don't have a clutch to smoke anymore. The .3 drop was leaving off the T Brake at 3000 RPM. Lots left in it.

Anyone else ? remeber its from A4 w/3500 SSF to TH350 with 5000 stall and transbrake

Oh you will be in the 11s for sure. It makes such a huge difference with that big of a stall and the TB. It might just scare you.

You may want to add a 2.75 first gear to the TH-350 for best results with the 4.56.

what about powerglyde???


I will be taking the car out to the track tonight and swapping 26 tall tires with 28 tall. I already have 4.56 gears.

Can't help you on the powerglide, but that stall is holding you back a lot. With those gears, you're good, but the stall is a bit too small for a Trex. If your setup had a 4400 stall, and your limiter bumped up a little, you'd be in better shape. You'll pick up quite a bit with the new setup.

you need tuning.. ur prolly not gaining much power with that cam, and losing power with that cam below 5000rpms with no tune.. jmo

but i honestly believe the trex untuned with a 3500 converter.. well i think youd run just as fast, with the stock cam man

I will be getting a dynotune after i do a tranny swap. i just need to decide whether to go TH350 or powerglyde.

No concerned too much about streetable. i already have my wife's Ta to cruise around in.

a while back in an old firebird i had, i went from a 3200/700r4 to a 5000/th350 - this was a street car too. It went from being fun to play around with people on the street - to - not enjoyable from stoplight to stoplight.

yea i have a 4000 in my 69 chevelle and it is a pain to drive around... everybody thinks i dont know how to drive a stick until they see the shifter... i picked up 5 tenths when i switched from a stock 350 stall to a b&m 4000... man what a difference
