Default First run the best

My first run each night is my best. I've tried letting it cool 30 mins to a hour between runs. I've hot lapped it. Most people go faster as the night cools I go slower. Same amount of traction. Any thoughts?

Probably heat soak in the manifold and throttle body. If you want to keep the performance up try icing them down.

I leave the hood up to cool off. Do you think it is still heat soak?

What track? Was runs run made during a T-N-T night?

With me, it seems to be other way around. I tend to get better numbers with hot lapped pass.

sometimes it's hard to predict what an lt1 is gonna do. Mine normally slows down after hotlapping, then out of the blue, it'll run it's fastest time of the day . It has done this on a few occasions and generally makes it difficult to dial in when bracket racing.

On street nights you dont have the greatest track prep. This could be a reason for you slowing down.

Yeah these old Lt1's do heatsoak pretty bad espeacially in the summer. My car always runs best off the trailer unless the track prep is bad and it spins. Now when it cools off I can usually pickup some ET after a couple runs if I let it cool down for awhile. The best fix for this is n2o b/c it don't care if it's hot or cold it just makes power buit not too good for bracket racing LOL. later

fastlt1, yours is a common question.

Often on street night, water gets dragged from the water box to the line...and beyond. That typically weakens traction for the 60' and the 1-2 shift, adversely effecting the 330' too. One way to check this is by analyzing your all your slips for a couple different nights.

From all the passes each night compare the 60' and calculate and compare the incrementals for the
60'-330'
330'-660'
660'-1000'
1000'-1320'

If a loss of rwhp due to heat soak is responsible, its effect should be discernible amost evenly among the incremental differences between passes.

If, on the other hand, it is water near and beyond the line, then the adverse impact would be in the 60' and 60'-330'. But the rest of the incrementals would not change much.

Sorry I can't give you the answer; but this is a way to determine it for yourself.
