Default What times shuld i be runing?

hi guys well i have a TA with the following

99TA 80k miles
aftermarket exhaust
KN filter
Fast lid
removed the big Cat
power programing
275 tires and stock 3.42 gears

my question is what shuld this car be running aprox? cus i just went down to the track and got a best of 14.2 but bearing in mind that my sparkplugs are as good as dead and the transmission is giving me real probs from 1-2 and from 2-3.

also is 2.311 a ok 60feet time? and one more thing, what gear are most of you stock guys finishing in? becouse at the last 60 feet or so i have to change gears wich sucks

To put it bluntly, 2.3xx 60' is horrible, need to work on launching your car to get it down to 1.9xx range.

What was the trap speed? Looks like you need to learn to shift bit faster, do not short shift.

i have a 99 camaro with pretty much the exact same thing. i ran a 13.65 at 104 my best pass. i learned to launch at 1700 rpm it spins just a second then hooked (im running copper street tires nothing special) i turned a 1.970 60 ft. But a buddy of mine has a 99 ta that has a problem shifting in 1-2 and 2-3 dont have a clue whats wrong with it.but i come through the trap in 4th gear.

I trap in 4th as well. I would shoot for a sub 2.0 second 60'. That should put you in the 13.4-13.6 range. Good luck.

You and I have almost identical cars, identical problems as well...mine tries to hang up on the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. I ran a 14.3 w/ a 2.3xx 60 ft spinning bad on my slick nitto 555r's. I'm in the process of finding out what's up with the tranny though...if i come up with anything firefightergib or i will pm you about it. Trapping in 4th here too.

Thanks for your answers. yes my 2.3 60ft isnt to good. but i have only made 7 passes in my car so im still learning how to launch. AOC my best trap speed was 102mph and the problem is not that im slow at shifting but rather that the car wont go into gear. at avarage my guesstimate is that i lost about 0.7 seconds of accelearation time just becouse the car just wuld not go into gear

2K1Bird plese do let me know what the problem is with the tranny. on a sidenothe though i just sucked the fluid from the master cylender resovoir and replaced it with dot 4 hydrolic fluid and the car seems to behave a bit better. the fluid i removed was black! do check your resovoir and let me know it yours is black as well funny though that apart from the WS6 hood our cars look nearly exactly the same even our wheels are the same

You should be shooting for around a 2.0 60'. I couldn't imagine trying to launch a 6spd, w/street tires, @ a track; the only people I know around here getting good launches have there suspension set up for racing, not counting drag radials. I have an auto, and it shifts into 4th crossing the line. Even w/ a 2.73 I'm getting a 2.0 60' and 106 trap; once you get your transmission figured out, you can really start to narrow down what you should be running.

13.5 would be an ideal e/t for you...lower that sixty ft. time....
