Default Video of my passes last weekend...

I was at the track for the 3rd time last weekend with my 427 Firebird... Have a look at this in car video of one of my passes... notice how the steering wheel is centered correctly... after the car launched at the wheels came down, the steering was thrown off... the track was not that great which made for an even wilder ride! This pass was with a 150HO shot, I wanted to try a 250HP hit for the 1st time on Sunday, but there where some funny sounds coming from my tranny after I did my burnout and was staging... it looks like 35 passes in the 10.6-9.6 range might have taken it's toll on my overdrive tranny

That was fun to watch. It's impossible to tell if it was straight before you started, but you'd know from driving it. I'd almost think that your steering wheel adapter moved with that much difference.

I have to agree about getting safe with a cage and all the other 9 sec stuff.

The car has a 6 point roll bar and I have a fire jacket... At what point do I need a cage and full suit? Regardless, those are 2 things I plan on doing this winter, as I hope to be in the 8's next season

Here's what you need when you pass 9.99 -

jacket/pants
SFI flexplate
Flexplate shield
Master elec cutoff switch
Neck collar
NHRA License
Cage, window net and chassis cert
Parachute
Tranny shield

Of course there's other stuff like aftermarket rear axles, open wheel lugs, etc that would be required prior to the 9 sec zone.

Isn't a chute only required for over 150mph and chassis certification only required for 9.00 or quicker? I race at an IHRA track... I also read that a jacket is fine till 8.50 and a cage is only required under 9.00...

http://www.newenglanddragway.com/tra...n_safety.shtml

Elapsed Time (ET) of 7.00 - 9.99

IHRA Class B Competition License required for all drivers running an ET of 0.00 - 7.99 seconds, an IHRA Class C Competition License when running 8.00 - 8.99 seconds or an IHRA Class D Competition License when running 9.00 - 9.99 seconds.
Drive shaft loop
Fire system (8.49 or quicker)
Flywheel shield mandatory (8.49 or quicker)
Harmonic Balancer meeting SFI 18.1 Specifications
Snell 95 (or newer) helmet
Parachute required for all cars running over 150 MPH
Two parachutes required for all cars running over 200 MPH
Jacket meeting SFI 3.2A-5 Specifications
Jacket and pants for all cars running 8.49 seconds or faster which must meet SFI 3.2A-5 Specifications.
Roll cage mandatory for all cars running 9.00 seconds or quicker.
Chassis Certification mandatory for all entries running 9.00 seconds or quicker.
Seat belt meeting SFI 16.1 specifications within 2-year expiration from date of manufacture.
All vehicles running 8.99 or faster must use a diaper.
Flexplate meeting SFI 29.1 specifications
Transmission shield meeting SFI 30.1 specifications
Supercharger strap meeting SFI 14.1 specifications
Neck collar meeting SFI 3.3 specifications (8.49 or quicker)
Gloves meeting SFI 3.3/5 specifications (9.99 or quicker) on open bodied entries.
Arm Restraints meeting SFI 3.3 specifications (9.99 or quicker) on open bodied entries.
Check current IHRA Rule Book for additional requirements and specifications.

http://www.cordovadrag.com/page/track_rules.html

If you go quicker than 9:99 quarter mile/6:49 eighth mile you must make licensing runs & purchase an IHRA license as required by IHRA rules. Chassis Certification is mandatory on all entries 9.00 or quicker 1/4 mile or 6.00 1/8 miles, and any vehicle faster than 150 mph. Other ET's apply by class. See 2006 IHRA Rules, p. 127.

Per IHRA Rules, vehicles running faster than 150 mph must have a functional parachute. Flagrant disregard of safety by not having an operable parachute is grounds for disciplinary action, fines, or suspension. All drivers should deploy their parachute frequently to assure it will function properly. Any driver exceeding posted speeds should use good judgement and deploy chutes, unless the deployment itself would create an endangering situation. See also page 120 of 2006 IHRA Rulebook.

I couldn't tell you a thing about IHRA rules. Everything I posted was NHRA.
