Gainesville Raceway season ender: a new best time with nitrous and 1/4-finals finish!
I decided to take out the Formula and give her a little torture session before the season ended, and since the air was magically good, I even figured "let's spray her again!" (Original spray topic is here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-results/560804-formula-gets-some-laughing-gas.html ).
Arrived at Gainesville at 8:30 am this morning, and my weather station said -1556 DA. I did tech and finally got first pass at 10:02, running it N/A.
1,000 rpm stall on line:
.042 reaction time
1.942 - 60 foot
8.349 @ 86.24 - 1/8 mile
12.926 @ 106.67 mph - 1/4 mile
53 degrees, 52% humidity, 30.45 Barometer, -865 DA and a 5 mph headwind.
I back that pass up 18 minutes later with a:
.003 light
1.953 - 60 foot
8.363 @ 86.10 - 1/8 mile
12.937 @ 106.71 mph - 1/4 mile.
56 degrees, 46% humidity, 30.45 Barometer, -645 DA and a 5 mph headwind.
So, now I'm thinking about spraying. Luckily, a buddy brought out his truck to watch, and we stashed my nitrous bottle in his truck and cranked on the heater. Got the pressure up to 1150 psi before putting it in the car, and went up to try and surpass the previous best 12.25 time!
1st pass:
Full throttle arming switch off, 1,000 rpm stall on line, WOT launch, counted to 1, then throw arming switch (rpm was about 2600 when I threw it, and just passing the 60 foot clocks). A decent hesitation, then off she goes! Slip said:
-.003 reaction time
1.958 - 60 foot
7.916 @ 94.78 - 1/8 mile
12.045 @ 119.28 mph - 1/4 mile
57 degrees, 48% humidity, 30.44 Barometer, -426 DA and a 4 mph headwind. Bottle pressure was 950 psi after the run.
I was happy (best pass by 2 tenths) but I knew more time was left and wanted the 11 second slip.
So back in line again, and this time throw the switch a hair earlier. Same hesitation, and slip read:
.094 reaction time (sleepy)
1.947 - 60 foot
7.733 @ 93.48 - 1/8 mile (starting to run low on nitrous)
11.958 @ 116.26 mph - 1/4 mile
62 degrees, 42% humidity, 30.42 Barometer, -278 DA and a 4 mph headwind. Bottle pressure was 800 psi after the run, so my lack of mph even with a 2 tenths better 1/8 mile et indicated bottle was close to empty.
So we swapped a buddy's fresh bottle in and tried again 25 minutes later, throwing the switch a tad earlier yet! Here's the result:
.023 reaction time
1.998 - 60 foot
7.732 @ 95.42 - 1/8 mile
11.842 @ no speed recorded! - 1/4 mile
57 degrees, 48% humidity, 30.40 Barometer, -110 DA and a 4 mph headwind. Bottle pressure was 925 psi after the run.
I then managed to go 4 rounds in footbrake before red-lighting in the 1/4-finals. But got to make 9 passes, and the car was fun to pilot at 119 mph

That's awesome! Great times man. I should have gone down there and taken advantage of the good weather.
Last time I ran the Firebird was in Valdosta with an almost +1000 DA and stock clutch grannyshifting to a 12.16 @ 116.8 w/ 1.89 60ft. I probobly could have hit 11's yesterday but my fault for not going.
Oh well, I'll get it soon. I need 11's before the bottle goes on.
Once again, great runs Derek! Bet in felt good to make some passes again.

Thanks for all the kind words!
I saw your '02 yesterday and that sounded nasty! Yep, I'm beting a few got the "go see tech" warning when they picked up sub 11.50 timeslips.
My buddy's 95 Formula (speed shop owner that does most of my stuff). With a 383 LT1 with stock ported heads, a mild cam upgrade and a bunch of bolt-ons, he ran 11.69 at 114 mph with a 1.57 60 foot time. He and I keep "trading races" back and forth, so our scores versus the other are close....

Congrats on the runs! We have had some good air with same DAs here for the past two weekends. Sure does make for some good record settings runs, and the cars love it. Enjoy, hopefully we will have plenty more good air this winter here in southeast Texas as well.
