With a TH400 you would need more stall with that big of a cam. Around a 5500 or so, and I would go with at least a 4.10-4.30 gear.

I was thinking of doing a similar cam but I have a 4l60e with a 4k stall. It seems that you guys are saying a bigger stall, is that due to his tranny being a th400 or is that the best size stall no matter what tranny? Also, I was going to run a 4.56 gear since all I have local is a 1/8mi track, is the 4.30 just a minimum gear for the cam or is that what gear would be best for the setup he mentioned?

with the ms3 i run a 4400 in a 4l60 4.10 and 28's and the set up seems to work well.......... might go to 4.30's to maximize rpm at the end of the track.... but with a Th400 wher u can much bigger stalls with an all motor setup you want to 5k or higher to take full advantage of the motor!

If it was a 4l60e setup, I would go 4400-4800. Yes, the bigger stall is needed in the th400 due to the different gearing. There is no "best" stall speed. Everyone's setup is different, and weight, tire size, and gear all affect what the converter actually stalls to. I have a Yank PT4400 in my 4l60e, and with a 3.73 gear, 26" slick, 340rwhp, & 3040lbs, it flashes to 4800-5000, but kicks *** at the track. The 5500 I recommended should be a round about start for his car if he stays on motor, and it should be an 8" converter. If he were to spray it, the 4400 would work good if it is a 9"-9.5" converter.

Cams like that need converter and rpm, so you'd have to run it and see what that converter really does with that combo.

I ran at like 3400 raceweight, 240/244 cam, 4800 8" converter, TH400, 4.10's, 28 slicks, and heads, etc., and went 10.92@122.5 on a 1.48. Car was still pretty lazy and needs a bit more converter for motor. I would run a 4.10 minimum with that cam, and 4.30's would probably be even better but I'm staying with my 4.10's.

WOW your avatar is sexy ..

Anyways ya i just hope this car is a drag car bc 5500 stall and 4.30 gears will not be streetable. If your gunna spray it though you need to go with like a 4500 along with the 4.30 gear.

i agree with above. run that ATI MRT 5500 converter for that cam. it stalls about 5200 behind a 3200-3300 lbs car.

my TH400 loves my converter that flashes at 4800-5000 on the nitrous.

You could also keep the gears and go with a 26" tall tire instead.
That would help a little.
