I think the fastest stock bodied GTO in the US( 8.20s) is a guy named Nick Rinehart that runs NMCA "Xtreme Street". It has a GTO interior but also NHRA certified chassis and it has a 522cu big block with a 4 link rear.

There is a good # of GTOs in the mid/low 10s with IRS but only 1 guy that just went 9.78 w/IRS, there is no one close to you in the US.

"A long-standing rule that requires any car with
independent rear suspension (IRS), weighing over 2000 pounds, and running 10.99 or quicker to replace the IRS with a conventional rear-end housing has been modified.
For 1999, only those IRS designs which utilize a lower control arm only (like a 1963 to 1982 Corvette) will have to comply with the above requirement. If the suspension utilizes both upper and lower control arms, the IRS may be retained regardless of weight or e.t."

That was the rule I was thinking of. I'm old, so I know all the 60' & 70's vettes had to be upgraded, didn't know about all this modern stuff. Thanks for finding it.

I think I'm the fastest US GTO with an IRS. I've gone 9.76 @ 138 on nitrous.
I've only made 3 passes so far and I'm changing a few things around this winter so I might try to get closer to your # this spring.
My IRS is all bone stock. I've never broke anything yet. I'll be running cryo treated cv's and stubs this year.
Here is the US GTO List. I'm Gforce1320 on that forum

IHRA 10.99 to 11.49

AXLES: Aftermarket axles and axle retention device mandatory on entries running 10.99 and quicker 1/4 mile or 6.99 and quicker 1/8th mile
