Default 2001 z28 lid runs

So i took my car to SIR in tucson, notorious for its sucky times, but i clicked off a

14.05@103.5mph with a 2.44 60ft. I couldnt get the car to launch no matter what i did, that 2.4 was the best with a 3500rpm slip of the clutch...and suggestions would be awesome.

also forgot to mention i was spinning the 1-2 hard, chirping 2-3 hard, and chirping 3-4...... defiantly didn't help my times.

also...on my 3rd run my ses light came on...but the car ran similar times...any idea? 58k on the car

yea i talked to a few guys out there with ls1s and they all said you i need tires for that track, but they were surprised by my 103.5mph, because most of them stock only trapped 98-100mph. the track up here is at 3075ft. a 2002ish m3 ran a 14.6@96-97, a 2006 GTO ran a 14.4@98, and a guy with a cammed 2000 ss ran a 13.6@ 106.... he had slicks also...

I had the exact same problem. I went 14.0 @ 102 back to back to back with no cool down. Couldn't get the dam thing to launch cleanly and it was warm tht day. But post your times if you get dr's I'm very interested to see how much better your car can do!

The first time racing I went 13.5 with a 2001 A4 with lid, catback, and Drag Radials in 90 degrees

I have since, with more seat time, cut my 60'ft by .1 and my 1/8 by .2. I am going back to the quarter mile in a couple weeks, I expect to see 13.3.

This should give you some idea.

60' 2.411
330 6.247
1/8 9.28
mph 81.11
1000' 11.86
1/4 14.050
mph 103.59

DA:4950ft

basically i found out my flaw of trying to launch at 3500rpm and rolling into the throttle way to fast. so I'll be going out in a couple weeks again to fix this and hit 13's

i put my 1/8mile time into a converter and got a 14.5...so obviously im picking it up hard after i get some traction into 2nd lol

Not sure of the DA it was at Atlanta in the middle of June, hot as ever too.
On my 13.5 runs I had a 60' of 2.1XX and 8.9XX 1/8

Recently I was able to get a 2.0 60' and 8.7 1/8, this was at a higher altitude in East Tenn. but the weather was about 10 degrees cooler. Later on this month I expect to get even lower but the 2.73's are really holding me back.

All I can tell you is to get more seat time and if you still aren't satisfied buy/borrow some DR's and see where that gets you. If the track is as bad as it seems then it wouldn't even be worth it in my opinion to run anything but slicks or DR's.

If you're gonna run on regular street tires then there is no point in leaving with the rpms above 1000. Plus leaving that low helps improve your technique, because you have to be pretty quick on the gas to keep the car from stalling, yet slow enough off the clutch to keep from spinning.

And if you're spinning bad enough on the 1>2 that you think it's slowing you down, then just ease up on that shift.

well I guess you have to turn a mustang that high to get it to make enough power to even consider spinning the tires

I'm more than sure i can hit 13's here. Heres the thing, Arizona....well its Arizona and has some one of the harshest environments to race in, our gas sucks(91oct), our air sucks(80deg at night if lucky), our altitudes sucks(DA of 5000) and the list goes on.

it wasnt Atlanta Dragway by any chance was it? Cause thats about 1003ft altitude....and i imagine your DA isnt that high.

Your car IS NOT slow with that DA, thats a crap statement, most of these guys running low-mid 13s are alot closer to sea level, so thats not fare to say his car is slow , run that sucker at 1000 DA & see what happens , you would have run 13.3-13.4s @ 106-107 with the same traction issues, so your doing GREAT @ that alt., as for the launching, just practise, you'll get better, if you get DRs & the car starts hooking good, then you'll have another problem, it'll start bogging lol, then you'll want to leave harder & harder, then your rearend may POP, its a vishus cycle, IMO, your best bet is to get a better tire, but not THE best, so it will still spin some off the line, you'll 60ft. good, plus you'll save the rearend of any issues, as i look back with mine, i ran 13.7s @ 101 with 3.42s with 2.16-2.17 60fts with hardly any spin (but some) leaving at 2500 & letting out the clutch as fast as possible without dumping it, NOW i have a 9" with 4.10s & DRs, i run 13.5s @ 101, but with 2.00 60fts hooking, but bogging, i can leave at 2000 or 5000, it doesn't matter, the 60fts. the same, my best 60ft. ever was this last time out, was a 1.97, but the air was cooler & the clutch was slipping, so if you bogg, your 60fts. are through, something has to give, either the clutch, or the tires, thats why we put converters in our automatics, its a syntrifical clutch, its gets you in the powerband of the engine as you leave, this gets it moving, ok, i've sead too much lol. Practise/practise/practise with that stick, you'll get better & better.

DA is the killer. Well your 60fts suck too. For every .1 you knock off of it, it's usually worth .2 off your E.T.

So...

2.4-2.0=.8 off in the long run with good air
