408ci 8s?
ok i was wondering is a 408ci nitrous LQ9 setup good fpr 8s in a 3000lbs or less TA or would in be a smarter to go more cubes? im going to run the 10.20 class and work my way down to the 9.20 class then maybe the 8.50 class so im wondering if a 408ci is going to be big enough and if you guy have any good ideas let me know im somewhat new to all of this!! thanks

yes a 408 on the gun can get the job done ...but
depends on what you want to spend on a setup as well as how much you want to spray
I would suggest an LSx block for extended reliability with your intentions to push a block hard on spray.

Go into the next section down that says drag racing results and look for a post about winning the import vs domestic race. That is a nitrous car that runs heavier than you will be and still gets et's that you would like. I am pretty sure the engine is for sale and a proven performer.

JL-ws6 on a 402 LS2 block with a 150 shot plate kit does low 9's and its pitchin to get a direct port on there, its around 3200 and with some more tweaks it will be there. So I can't see why your's can't be.

But let's say you got to 3000 raceweight, what would the car run just on HP. You might be able to run high 9's to low 10's just on HP. Take tuff's car for example, he's run 9.8 on HP with a nitrous converter. Now his car has a very very stout engine, and that engine to replicate would cost more than some folks' cars. So I'll say low 10's on HP, and then 150-200 shot for low to mid 9's. Probably looking at 300 shot for 8's.
You have to ask yourself, are you building a 9.20 car or a 8 second car. You would make certain parts selections based on the answer. And 8.20 N20 4th gen car will easily cost you $50-60K to build.

I found another car, and I am looking at it like this:
Spend another 2 years and 20 grand to get mine to where I want it and then I'm at the limit of the chassis cert, or I can sell mine for 25 grand, and spend 25 grand on a car with a 7.50 cert that runs high 8's n/a and 8.40's with a 125 shot... looking at it from a $ perspective, it just seems like a smart move.
