How much are skinnies worth in the 1/4
This may be a dumb question but I've done a search trying to find an answer. I'm sure others on here would like to know what other folks have gotten.
I've been trying to get my m6 SS into the 12.0s on street tires,bolt-on only. I tried to mount my prostar skinnies but they were touching the calipers...even with the 5/16 spacers. I really don't want to grind on the calipers if the skinnies aren't going to give me much.
My best time so far is a 12.22@115 with a couple12.18 passes being blown because of a missed shift.(compared 60' and 330' slips and was .03 and .04 ahead respective of the 12.22 pass)
What have you guys found the skinnies to be worth? Are the gains from the reduction in weight or less rolling resistance? My raceweight is around 3660+ depending on how much gas is in the tank.

I would guess they are probably good for a half a tenth or at the very most a tenth depending on what wheel and tire is used. The biggest advantage of running skinnies is the reduction of rotating mass.

I would grind your calipers, it is something very simple that will definitely improve your ET, and for what you are shooting for it would be worth it! That and shed just a few pounds and you will see a 11.99 for sure. 3660+ isn't too light! lol

Skinnies are worth it all day long, weight off the nose, less rotating weight, its a win, win in every sense.
Just keep your ARM locked so it doesnt move when you launch, My car pulls the wheels and even though it isnt for 100 feet, you dont want the wheels to move when you land. Also no hard sharp turns, thats about it.

I picked up 2 tenths with my heavy telstars. it's too broad of a question to just generalize "skinny" btw. it will be determined on rotating weight improvement....meaning how much improvement there is between original tire/wheel vs skinny tire/wheel combined. the volkswagon street tires are very heavy as well although they last quite a while...where as a good MT skinny is extremely light.
regardless it's worth it IMHO. I ran on them for 6 years with a spool and didn't have too much of a prob. granted I could get out cornered by a 4 cyl mini van, but thats here say haha.

I take my left arm, put my hand at around 10 o'clock and lock the elbow against the door skin and keep it there. If I was doing this.....
I would even think about putting a strip of white tape at the 12 o'clock position to make sure I DO NOT turn the wheel on the launch, otherwise when the wheels hit, its going to turn HARD and either mass up the run at the best, or go into the wall or other car at the worst.
My car pops them now, but the way I am going, its going t leave harder and farther out and these are the things you need to know when you race.
This is where I am at and this photo, the wheels were about 1 foot off the ground at it's peak and came down with in 20 feet, nothing crazy but you need to be care ful. When it hit, all I could see was blue sky.

When you race with skinnies, I got my education from those who ran up until recently the fastest LSX on Nitrous, and cars that are frequently in the 8's and 9's.

We had a guy @ the track last year come down and crash the wall hard in his 4th gen TA. He wouldn't admit to it, but everyone knew it was his first time. The word is that the wheels were straight ahead on the way down.

What about wheel alignment for when you come back down (caster, camber, toe)? Got any input from the guys in 7's and 8's? Is there a consensus amongst those guys?

Since my stuff is not adjustible, I never delt with that, its all stock in the front.
If and when that happens I'll have Eastside Perf. take care of it.

Skinnies deffy help alot Id say they picked me up a little more than a tenth, and also help the launch with weight transfer if you have enough power to pull the tire.
The first time I ever drove my camaro, which is a full racecar, I pulled the wheels a foot or so. But the steering wheel wasnt in the correct location around the steering column, so what looked like straight to me, really pointed the wheels in the other direction. I was closley watching the tach (first pass ever, wanted to make sure things were ok) and realize I was almost on the center line and cut the wheel the other way, coming dangerously close to the wall, and haddto get outof it. Needless to say my dad watching from behind **** bricks, but if your instinctive enough to know **** can go wrong, your adrenaline will allow you to react quick enough to avoid a serious crash.
