^ Taubr Unit, you've been finding all sorts of good wiring info lately. I'm in on this one too.

Agreed. It will be way easier to remove the entire factory harness and start from scratch with new wire. You can use the factory relays and fuses, switches, etc. It's not that many circuits. If you draw them out and run them one at a time you should not have a problem.

So how do you know if you're not messing with a circuit you may need for something important? My car won't let you read the pcm if the cigarette lighter circuit has a blown fuse. Are there any other crazy things like that?

When I mess with the factory harness I always use the factory manuals.

That's screwy as hell, because my cigarette lighter, and all the wiring associated with it are gone, including the fuse for it.

Hell, if you saw my fuse boxes you'd laugh, because 70% of them aren't in there.

anyone else going to a smaller/lighter fuse box, the the under hood relay box, when cutting wires out? I think ProjectSS did.

the reason for that is i think that the cigarette lighter fuse also supplies power to the diagnostic port. i may be wrong though. i didnt forget about scanning those wiring diagrams for you guys, i've just been busy as hell the past couple of days getting ready for christmas......well and playing in the snow on the quad.

i got rid of everything. using a small fuse box under dash and thats it. i have a couple relays under the hood near the core support and a few more under the dash as well but thats it. also remaoved all un-needed wires from the engine harness and prettymuch made it like a standalone. i have 6 wires to hook up for the engine harness and thats it. one wire to control the fan relays, tach wire, one wire to diagnostic port, power, ground, and ignition.

good deal and yes i got the pm about the shifter. i will let you know first if i decide to sell it or not. i thought about hanging on to it for another build that i am thinking about. i have a ton of extra parts and though about throwing a car together with all the extra crap just to beat on.

I did all this last summer, don't forget about interior lights and stuff like that, I pulled all that stuff too since there is no need for it in my car, and if you do a good job of tracing through the wires you don't have to worry about screwing up the system(s) that are intermixed, the biggest PIA is the retained power module and all the things associated to it, but once you look at the wire diagrams you will figure out how to bypass it and remove a lot of un-needed crap...

where is the retained power module in an LS car?

also, could i remove the lighter and power port wires and my OBD2 port still work since they run off of the same fuse?

^^Check to make sure that they are a branch off of it, not a contunious run.

When I was doing my T56 Swap, I clipped a bunch of Wires that were extra, mostly the ones that were on the Auto Shifter. I traced each one and hit them with a Test Light to isolate the power ones so I didn't wrap them up and pop any Fuses. I cut out the little Light that illuminates the Shift Panel when the Marker Lights are on, and ended up killing the Back Lights for my Gauge Cluster. I guess that interrupted that Circuit.

I used a Pin Diagram and found the Wire on the Cluster that powers the Back Lights, and spliced into the one that lights up the Head Light Switch to fix my problem.
