Default project gutting wire harness, have questions

Now its time to take the leap into the wiring nightmare!! Im pulling all the wires i dont need, not even the stuff i use SOMETIMES! Example: no 3rd brake light or side marker lights on the rear bumper cover, no light over the licence plate, no defroster wires etc. Stuff like that im ditching with everything else. I only want the bare min. i need like headlights, tail lights, brake lights. I dont have wipers, dont need my hazards, high beams... you get the point. So on to my questions...

Theres a lot of little boxes under the dash that are pluged in.. anyone have a diagram of what they are? Theres a black plastic guy on the pass. side of the shifter that has like 6 wires going into it, whats that? Along with the rod thing that attaches to the shifter, im assuming something for safety? Anyone have pics of what all they cut out?

Heres the shifter stuff i was talking about. If i can get rid of the black electrical thing on the right side of the shifter i wont have any wires going into my shifter area! Can i get rid of it?

what i did to my camaro and what i am doing right now to my firebird is just remove all the factory wiring and just wire back up only what you need using your own wires. i am comfortable with wiring so to me this way is alot easier than sorting through all the factory crap. i have a haynes manual and it has all the wiring diagrams for the entire car. i can scan the wiring diagram pages for you if you'd like.

That cylinder at the shifter is what allows the shifter to be moved out of park only when the brake is pressed. Don't need it, you're just able to put it in gear without your foot on the brake, so just be careful.

I don't even have the reverse lights hooked up, no need for that, just pull thru all parking spots and that solves that issue.

Unless you're night driving the car, ditch the lic. plate light, that's not needed.

I'm about ready to start this project once I have the BS3 computer system, I can tell ya, that 99% of the wiring in the car can go for a race car, street car bare minimum's, you can still get rid of 90% of it.

keeping the sensor with the arrow to keep my reverse lights and such

had a new question that popped into my head tho. can i remove the cable from the shifter to the steering column?

and also will my hatch release button still control the hatch with the neutral/park lock cylinder?

hoping the sensor with the arrow controls the hatch release button. im keeping that to keep my reverse lights

Thats exactely what i want to do and my plan. So were on the same page here, just need to know what all i can take out that the car doesnt actually need to run or if some ecm wires run through any other devices in order to work.

wires on the right control park/neautral safty, reverse light and hatch release. The cable to steering wheel I believe is for steering wheel lock.
