Just got my chassis harness done. I used AllDATA PRO to go through the harness and it was nice, although very time consuming and frustrating im glad i did it. i like simplicity, the less wires the better and cleaner.

Sorry forgot to weight it, Guessing 4-5lbs

hey man, thanx for that link. that could help alot of us out doing this mod. may consider that to simplify wiring and not to mention the cheap price compared to other kits

No i am now going with manual windows. im just tired of replacing window motors. no matter GM replacement or parts store motors will hold up.

ill be running a gutted manual door with wolfe race craft door panels

power window doors are lighter then manual doors FYI. The electrical motor is lighter then the big metal scissor action ****

Its a 4th gen LS A4. before i took it apart this winter for the major overhall i was 3010lbs + 150 lbs for myself on top of that. so 3150lbs race weight

I now Have installed....

Sunuco Pin on hood,Pin on hatch/ lexan, wolfe mini tub and cut the whole rear floor and replaced with 18g steel
UMI Stage 6/FBX kit and full UMI rear suspesion
Tubular nose, frame horns forward
Drag wheels compared to the old heavy 18's
heater/ ac delete.
All interior brackets and miscelanios stuff are removed, ebrake cables/handle ect
Midwest chass 9'' soon - Eric said it will be lighter than my stock 10bolt when we get done with it

And thats about it that i can think of as far as weight reduction im doing

yes i figured they would be lighter than cranks. thanks for the info. I just would prefer the cranks because its no wiring in the door, less wiring in the chassis harness, and combined with the wolfe door skins it just doesnt get much simpler than that. ( except a vfn drag door lol)

this is a diagram of the chassis harness fuse block on my car 1998. not sure if they changed much in the fuse block between years but i can post different years if you guys want them.

U have to be car full though cuz gm harness tie alot of grounds and powers together through out the harness. for instance 4 of the fuses power wires might be coming from one (+ or - source). so if u pull the air bag pin power out and it leads to a " junction Block" where wires gather to one source of power or ground. THen just cut the air bag power wire at the juction so u dont cut the power off to the other possible needed fuse powers. just take you time and trace every thing out twice before cutting.

That is a really nice looking harness. That's a ton of weight you hacked out of there. I've been twiddleling with mine recently.

Question for you guys who have done this. Is it worth going through the harness or is it better to just tear it all out and rewire it?

Reason I ask is I'm loosing the computer completley and going to a carb setup.

I need to keep all the lights for street driving but thats it.

i went thru the harness on mine and wasnt that bad. just really time consuming. i say if your ditching the computers, tear it all out and re-wire

I'd pull it all out and wire what you need. I just tore all my wiring out yesterday and I'm re-doing it all for what I need only. I'm not doing a blow thru though, but going to BS3 so yours will be even easier.

From what I've done I couldn't image doing it with all of the wiring in the car. It would probably have taken me about eight times longer.

ahh, its not that bad doing the wiring in the car i did mine in the car and its just time consuming but wasnt hard at all. probably takes about a wks time altogether

If you're doing it for weight, there are better things you can unbolt/cut out.

Save the harness as a last resort. The bulk of the wiring is really the stereo system.

I did it because I wanted to clean up the car. Tedious and time consuming but a fun project.

Have any of you taken out all the stereo wiring by the head unit without removing the dash?

yes, ive done my complete body harness without removing the dash. also removed all of the monsoon wiring and re-wired speakers directly to the head unit without removing the dash

is really easy for me tho, a/c heat, ducting, dash brace and firewall insulation are all removed
