very cool! Wonder what they mean by approved racing team. Are they really going to have a board go over that to make sure you are "up" to their standards? They should sell the hell out of these because if it makes a buck its worth it!

They probably do, they have such a thing for SEMA cars. If it will benefit them more then you, then they will approve it. Chances are you would need to provide a rendering and parts list, as well as events this thing will attend. And as GIZMO said, they do not want to sell many of these. They are probably do not meet production specifications, but rather then scrap them ...

FORD has been selling the **** of Body in White cars for ever and a day. They will sell them to anyone wanting to build a race car. No vin tags no nothing. One of the local chassis shops used to buy 2 or 3 a year and do up the cages and sell them for a very nice profit. He did a few 4th Gen F-Bodies the same way.

The application is fairly mundane. You have to agree that the car is not able to be liscensed, insured, able to be put back on the street, has no warranty of any kind, ect, ect.... If you are willing to pay the $$$$$ and sign the papers you can get one.

These cars are sold due to some minor defect, Crap weld, seam, e-coat, or what ever. GM can sell them to racers for $7000 instead of scrap them. Makes sense to me.

As long as GM makes these cars, there will be Body in White Car’s to buy.

My good friend Mark has a 1997 Mustang Cobra that Ford gave him to race. It came with a very cool letter saying that he can never sell it, but should have it crushed if he is done with it! (You would die if you new how many test cars, etc. get crushed every year).
Not counting all the parts that get scraped,Motors and parts.

Few links here. Shocked GM dont jump on this.http://www.nhra.com/content/news/34360.htm, BigDaddy back at it . Good reason to go to a div 2 race. And
http://www.mopar.com/performance/package/index.html. I heard awhile back that GM was going to offer a Car like Mopar did and Ford also.Maybe the white package is GMs deal. Have a friend down the street from us that Ford years ago gave him a body for his SS class car at Milan mich.

I was at the PRI show and saw the Cobra Jet Drag Package and Challenger Drag Package. Both are nice, but one look at the Camaro confirmed what I already new.....I have to have a new Camaro drag car!

No because by law they would have to add all the saftey features, by then might as well just finish the car.

Would you have to run IRS to race it in stock suspension classes?

Apparently not anymore lol. Some cars are running stock style suspensions (for other vehicles) and get away with it. So you could put a torque arm in the car and be ok...but as always it is up to the sanctioning group

Cool to see, but as mentioned I'd buy a 6 banger and have the VIN and such to keep a more streetable appearance. But for those wanting to build a dedicated drag only car, this is a good way to go.

If you are going to race NHRA Stock or Super Stock, you have to run a solid axle.

Glad to see GM trying to stay on top of the racing game. It's a pretty sweet start for a race car.
