Default What is it, what does it do, can it be removed???

Hey guys, as some of you know I am removing a lot of stuff from under the hood right now and just pulled the ABS, Power Brakes, sswapped in drag brakes and all that fun stuff. But to add to the complexity of my normal install, I seem to do that a lot, I started stripping everything out that is associated with those things. I traced the wires to al these systems and others all the way back to the plug that comes through the fire wall under the MC. When I looked inside the car to pull these through I see that most of the ones I traced back go to a computer type thing under the dash...

What is this, what does it do, and can it be removed, if so how? I pulled most of the interior wiring when I pulled the airbags, HVAC, and Stereo last year. If I recall from back then, nothing ran to that box, I see for a fact that all the ABS stuff goes to it, what else? Does this control the VATS too? I would hate to go through stripping it out just to find it is needed even if only for 2-3 wires...

Anyone have experiance with what this is and if it only runs the ABS or if it can be pulled?

OK so here are a few pics, I have pulled all to convoluted tubing and traced all the wires, the pile on the D-side fender are all un-needed... and most of then run to some sort of computer control box under the dash, but I am not sure what else this box controls, or if it can be removed...

BTW, you can click on those images to see larger ones...

When I just crawled under there a few minutes ago to snap those pis I notices that I did already cut a few wires off leading to that box previously, you can see a white and a grey wire clipped in the pics, so I guess I was wrong about not finding anything that ran to it when I did the in car wiring last year...

Is the number on the box 16199451?

If so, it is the electronic brake control module assembly.
I see an *bay item for you to sell.

That's a good question, because I have something that loosk very similar in my car that I didn't remove because I wasn't sure what the hell it was.

I stil have to do what you're doing to the engine bay wiring... but I have a feeling it's all just gonna come out and what I want to keep will get rewired. Seems easier that way.

I spent the past few hours tracing wires to and from this box, it looks like most of them ran different things that has to do with the brake system, ABS, TCS, the relay and fuses for these things under the hood and so forth. there are a few wires running up under the dash and I don't know if I want to pull the dash and see where they go and 3-4 wires go around the the plug near the PCM on the passenger side...

So far I think I pulled about 3-4 # of wire from under the hood, and need to fine a few vacuume caps or something to plug the holes in my intake from taking the Power MC off and the vacuum resevior. I unplugged this box and if the car starts and doesn't throw any serions codes then I will just keep it out, but I do wonder about those wires comming from ofer by the PCM, then again it could just be getting different signals like Speed, and ect from the PCM...

Anyone know? I guess I should pull out the wiring schematic soon too... LOL

OK, so the test start and run works without that box hooked up. I couldn't drive it because I am still running break lines, so I don't think this is needed...

Its alot easier to remove all that wiring and lay it on the floor. I jsut did all that to my harness. Removed AIR, AC, ABS. Those same wires lol. But as you confirmed they are not needed. But that connector at the firewall is held in by clips on the back side(interior) and then the wires are glued in. So your gonna have to heat it up with a hairblow drier
