Default 2010 Camaro "White" package

I ran across this on another site and thought it was quite interesting. Seems this is the way to go if one wants to build a strip car. This gives a new meaning to the word "A Gutted Car"..LOL !

Beginning in the first quarter of ’09, the 2010 Camaro will be offered in “white” packages. The basic unit lists for $7,000 and includes an assembled body structure, including the front fenders, hood, roof, doors, rear quarters and trunk lid. The structure also includes complete floorpans and chassis rails.

Racers must fill out an online application to be eligible to purchase one. The form is available at www.gmperformanceparts.com. Bodies will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no limit to the number an approved racing team can purchase.

The body in white includes only an un-painted body shell and no additional components or materials. The bodies do not have vehicle identification numbers, so they may be used only as racing vehicles that will never be licensed for street driving.

“For the racers who would strip down the entire car and replace most of the components with racing-spec parts, the body in white saves time and money,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer. “Drag racers, for example, won’t have to worry about swapping out for a solid axle – they can just bolt one up and go.” The body in white’s unadorned interior also saves time and money by allowing racing teams to eliminate the process of stripping a fully equipped production car in order to reduce weight and prep the chassis for a roll cage.

This is nothing new guys, GM has always offered bodies for racers. Even the 4th gens. No VIN because they do not want the extra baggage of paper work or maintaining these things.

They probably don't want to sell MANY. The idea of a "body in white" car is to get the latest model running at race tracks, so that the general public buys the showroom model.

I would buy one if it came with a VIN. I'm just going to wait a few years and buy a high mileage used V6 car to completely take apart and build it the way GM should have built them from the factory.

sweet, they figured since they are going under, sell off what we have as fast as posible. they should offer one built minus the drivetrain and suspenstion. just stick the body and bare bone interior on a cart and sell it that way. i'd definatly buy one if hat happens.

Yea i couldn't find the online application either. It won't be available until the first quarter of 2009, maybe they won't take applications until they are released.

You could call a GMPP dealer and start asking questions about it, and see what needs to be done to get an application.

Yep, Darren hit the nail on the head. Drag racers, road coarse racers, etc.

VIN's are issues by the DMV and basically these cars are not legal for the road, if this car is completed, it will go through as would a kit car and be considered a "grey market" vehichle as far as insurance is concerned.

If you are lucky enough to get one of these there will most likely be a legal agreement that no attempt will be made to register the vehicle for road use.
My good friend Mark has a 1997 Mustang Cobra that Ford gave him to race. It came with a very cool letter saying that he can never sell it, but should have it crushed if he is done with it! (You would die if you new how many test cars, etc. get crushed every year).

Intresting, I'd like to have it with the interior plastic and the dash though, cause that's stuff that you need to build a drag car for alot of classes (stock "appearing" internally, that type of thing)

That with just the interior plastic, headliner and dashboard would be great.
