Default Anyone else have a QA1 front spring Collapse?*PICS*

I took some weight off the nose of the car and decided to check ride height, the Rf was 1/2 inch higher than the LF, this is with me out of the car. I had originally set it up level without me in the car. So I evened them out, then did it with me in the car. The LF would not come up. The LF spring has collapsed or so it appears. My LF shock is now leaking also. I only have 3500 miles on this setup. ANyone esle had this problem?

My right-rear one was sitting alot lower than I had it one day, and I adjusted it and it was fine. It wasn't leaking, so I didn't think I killed it, but I kept an eye on it and it seemed to be fine.

I'll find out when I get back into the country, it will have been sitting still for about 5 months. So if it's low, then it's shot.

David, I have the same problem. I have raised the r/f three times this summer, I'm out of threads. Just kept going down. They are probably five years old, many hard landings. Can't really complain.

Extreme Shock Service up in MN can get you rebuilt and revalved if necessary for about $50/shock.

Also, I have a lightly used set of 15FB275 springs available since I went to 325's when we went with the big block.

I have seen alot of people having problems with the shocks leaking, that I can say is defonately not unheard of. I think I'm the only one that hasn't had an issue, and I've had the shocks on my car for 3 years now, probably 200 passes, car's been on the bumper, so they've seen some use.

I haven't had the springs collapse yet, I am not on a 275 spring though, ones I have have a 315 part # on them, so I dunno what they are exactly, shop had them laying around, so I snagged them to see if they would help.

i think those are the springs that came on the earlier QA1's like the ones for the LT1 cars. i use to have those on my 93.

They very well could be, honestly I don't know what they are LOL. I know they worked a little better then the stock springs did, but there wasn't a massive change by going to them.

I was considering trying a set of the 300 lb springs, but I'll probably do that when I put a set of afco shocks on the car. The R series fronts/12 way rears have worked good, but I thinkk I'm about at the limit of what I can get from these.

Huh. That's odd. I was running a touch quicker then you are when I was running my car n/a 2 years ago, and I've never had any issues, but I was at about a 3500 lb raceweight too with an alum block motor, so the weight's definately alot less on the nose then what you have.

I can't imagine that spring couldn't support the weight, I haven't noticed any sag at all in mine, even after having it come down after the little bumper dragging event

Any chance the springs ever saw any heat or something? Just wondering if something could have happened to cause it to become weakened. Have you used them on the street alot?

They have about 3800 street miles on them, just a bad spring I guess.

Possible. You haven't done any massive wheelstands or anything have you? That's the only thing I can think of that might cause that to happen, other then it just being a bad spring.

Anything's possible, guess it's a chance to try something else (have the shocks rebuilt, I'd do both for the piece of mind, and change the springs, maybe to something different)

Well right now money is tight, and a FYI for ya QA1 no longer makes that spring. I did find 4 of them on the shelf at Naake.com, well 3 now I bought one.

I dont want to change the car all up. The next closest spring is a 325lbs now.

No wheelstands, picks up the tires about a foot and gently sets them down.
I do streetdrive alot though, 3800 miles worth so far.

Mine did the same thing.

Had to get a rebuild and new pistons, they said it came from sitting, the seals dry out b/c no oil on them then a little wheels stand landing pressure blows them out.

I only use a 275 spring, I got mine redone and dynoed by some circle track place, I will see if I c an find it. It was $200 total for everything when I had mine redone, revalved, 2 new pistons and all the seals had to be replaced.

The 300lb generation F springs (same as the old 315s according to Qa1) on my old TA were in there for four years and hundreds of passes plus big wheelstands and they never sagged. But street driving is pretty tough on springs. Maybe the shock is bound up or bent, I assume if you jack the car up the wheel drops down the same as the other one?

But the last pair of QA1 300lb 'generation F' springs I just got are marked 'made in China' and one just looks different than the other so who knows how those are going to work out..

Nah, shocks not bent. Amazing this car went a 1.46 60ft like this.

MD, you had a spring collapse also?

Naake.com said they would rebuild the shocks, install synthetic fluid and dyno them for like $60 a shock I think it was.

He can also change an F series to an R series, but I forget the price, like $130 each I think.
