They DQ'd a friend of mine because of the Lenko, but let me tell you it is used on the street...all the time. At least it was pictured in the mag. Dam thing runs mid/upper 8's on 93 octane! Woulda had a chance Im sure.

Here are the results as noted by one of my friends.

This was a very good event!
Besides the fact that the weather was absolutely perfect and the race went off without a hitch, there were no whiners!

All the competitors were friendly and relaxed. The atmosphere was more like a Power Tour than a race. That's a nice change of pace.

It was also nice to see a decent variety of cars. No Buicks, Pontiacs (not counting the 4th-gen. 'Birds), or Oldsmobiles this year though. Photos to follow.

Here's the results from my hastily written notes. Apologies to anyone's names I screw up. For those unfamiliar with the format, these were street legal (licensed, registered, insured & inspected where applicable) vehicles running on 15 gallons of provided 93 octane fuel.

In all, 50 cars were selected to participate. They had to survive a 30 mile drive from the Comp Cams facility to the Memphis Motorsports Park without dropping behind the escort vehicle. This drive wound up being right at rush hour. Ouch!

Two cars fell by the wayside on the drive. A local 1969 Yenko Camaro began to run too hot and an early C3 Corvette had his ignition box overheat. They were permitted exhibition passes at the track but were out of contention.

After a 1/2 hour cool down, they began running. They were to make three passes each and they would be judged on their average time over those three runs. Without further ado, here's how it played out. They wound up picking the top ten, and the overall winner. (Kinda like the top 11.)

10. 10.00 Brian Clarke driving a blue Nova
9. 9.99 Tom Hunsucker in a black Hemi 'Cuda
8. 9.95 Chris Johnson in a 1969 Camaro
7. 9.85 Mel Graham in a 1969 Camaro
6. 9.83 Jim Pravis in a black 1968 Hemi Charger
5. 9.76 Kevin Zasky in a black 1969 twin-turbo Hemi Charger
4. 9.70 Mike Thompson in a red S10 pickup with a 357 SBC
3. 9.58 Ray Doti in a red turbo Nova
2. 9.47 John Cunningham in a white Nova with a N/A BBC
1. 9.45 Ken Close in a 1934 Ford coupe with a BBC

The top dog was Robert Schmidt in a beautiful white '66/'67 BBC stick-shift Chevelle that averaged 9.40.

I'll post some of the photos I took at the track later. I've been up for 21 hours at this point so it's time for some . Meanwhile, check out some nice pics of the pre-race preparations at Comp Cams: http://www.compcams.com/Community/E...asChallenge.asp

Thanks for the post regarding the results. My son Bryan in his 2000SS was one of the 50 invited for the show but the night prior to our leaving we broke the car trying to get in his NHRA license certifications passes for cars in the 8.50-9.99 time range. Congrats to all the participants. We will be taking BRYAN's car to some of the other events coming up. I am a liitle dissapointed an FBODY didn't make the top ten tho. But look for some low nines and maybe high eights in VERY near future.
