Thumbs up almost done with mini tub (pics)

well guys I posted in wheels and tires last week that I took off a week to do a mini tub. Unfortunatly due to my wifes grandfather passing I fell behind a couple of days. I finished the passanger side yesterday I feel it looks great. I took step by step pictures of the process and made comments of what is going on in each pic. I left out early this morning to head to Atlante to go to summit to pick up a Hughes performance transmission kit (hp2388k) and some offset lower control arms for the rear clearance. When i got home i started cutting out the drivers side. This side is going to be alot easier than the passanger side. I am including a link to the pics on myspace for all to see what i have done. Please leave feedback about what you think or if you have any questions please ask.http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...lbumId=2374121

i have not weighed all of the material that was removed yet but i have it ready for the scales when i get completly done with both sides but i used 4.08 sf of 20 awg. steel for the passanger side. this comes up to 5.77 lbs add another max 1/2 lb for the welding wire and you have a total of 6.27 lbs max. but the material that came out had undercoat. factory seam filler caked on it, and the metal that came out was in several differant layers not to mention the bump stop area that was removed. i would figure if i weighed all i have from that side it would be between 9-11 lbs so your looking at 3-4 lbs savings per side. if you would like i will weigh it in the morning to see exact #s

As far as the question of how hard this was. It was not realy hard at all you will just need a few days of down time and a basic knoledge of welding and metal working tools. This is the second large welding project that i have done the first was the roll cage. I purchased a welder and practiced for about a month prior to doing any cutting on my car. Just remember make sure of where you cut. It is always better th leave it long and cut again later if needed it is alot harder to add material. The tools needed for this is a 4" grinder, a saw zawl, w elder, marker, cardboard, and some basic tools like screw drivers and hammer. The materials used were 10'x4' 20 awg steel (33.00) 10- 4" metal cutting wheels (20.00) 5- saw blades (13.00) only used 1. 2- cardboard boxed ( 5.00) sharpie (1.50) 72.50 all together. If you need any additional information let me know. I love this ****.

I have all of the supplies to do this, but the rear end, new wheels, and tires. Nice pictures. I see you started with a V6 car. What do you plan on putting in there?

Nice work man,
do you have do weld a plate were the bumpstop was? is that the side of the "frame rail" or is that over the coil mount? Ive seen people just leave it all open, so you can see the coil.

The way it looked when i cut the section out it was pretty thick metal and seemed to be the side of the frame rail. So i decided to weld in a flat plate where i took out the bump stop. You are correct though i seen some pics last night where somw guys just left it wide open. That would scare the **** out of me.
