Question How to delete Vats? Not bypass...

I'm just wondering how to remove vats completely. I am cleaning my wire harness and do not need vats anymore, so can I just remove the box and trace/remove all the wiring to the vats box?

Or is there something special that I have to do?

Btw, I did a search and I came up with only bypasses and didn't feel like looking past more than 5 pages of search listings...

The VATS run to everything! Without the box nothing will work not even the fuel pump! I had that problem with my car. The VATS went out. I did the byass and all systems go. I would not remove it if I where you!

VATS can be removed but only by a tuner. If you have access to HP tuners it can be removed with that programming software. LS1 edit can as well.

But simply removing the body control module will disable the engine computer. the 2 computers talk back and forth to each other when you turn on the key. They each look for VIN code info and once they varify that the VIN numbers match, then the engine can start. You either have to program it out or use a bypass mudule to eliminate it. Or by an aftermarket PCM for the engine.

A bypass module just fools the computer into thinking there is a body control module and its ok to start the engine.

I have one in mine, and I've got it setup on a rocker switch hidden in the car so I can disable the engine PCM when I'd be worried about a theif. it would take quite a bit of time for the theif to figure out tha the PCM is disabled and how to enable it. Which would probably frustrate them into giving up!

As mentioned above you can simply disable it using tuning software like HPT or EFILive. Quick and simple.

My key lock cyliner went out. I turned the vats off with hptuner and still wouldnt start. I have to put resistors in line of the vats to trick it.

Disabling the VATS in the PCM will let the car run, the BCM lets the car start. If you turn of VATS in the PCM and ground the wire from the BCM to the starter relay the car will both start and run.

will this work for 3rd gen cars too??? i haven't been able to start mine in almost 2 years because of VATS, and i don't want to have to pay nearly $600 for the Chevy dealer to install a new one. if i could just bypass it, i'll be happy.

Thumbs up You can get rid of VATS very easily

This is what saved my car and my money (that I didn't have!). Here is a write-up on how to do it all yourself. It will bypass the VATS system entirely, you will not hear about it anymore and it will not own your car anymore!

This is not a write up for anything this is a sales pitch link to get 289 dollars out of someone. There are much cheaper options out there do not click on that link it is a waste of time unless you just want to spend 300 bucks for a bypass when you can get them on eBay way cheaper.
