the less hp loss through a glide is good as is the weight, but the main benefit of the glide is loading the engine better.Just because the engine is going up in rpm and the car is accelerating doesnt mean you are fully loading the engine. The 3 speed trans usually revs so fast in 1st gear your really not loading the engine, where as the glide loads the engine much harder and the engine produces more power.I can tell you on the engine dyno that the difference between 50rpms a second a 600rpms a second is huge in power difference.
you always have to remember the engine produces no power without load.

No BS here on the A-B-A testing, it was a long *** day but well worth it. I did the same test with a 200metric versus a glide and the metric beat the glide by less than .08 in the 1/4 mile. All three tranny's built by same guy to the same level of good parts/tricks/line pressures.

60-foot, the th350 would barely edge out the glide, by 330 glide was taking over.

Torque convertor selection is king.

Good info. I agree with what you're saying Shawn about the first gear thing, I found that short shifting the 1-2 shift picks my car up about a tenth, so that reinforces what you're saying about the power/load thing.

Anyone want a hughes TH400?

this is good info. I believe I am going to try the tires first, more gear 2nd if it likes the extra gear that the tires give it.
I may go ahead and switch to a glide before worrying about a converter. I think it willl be better for future plans when I switch out to a stroker motor in a year or so.

I'm glad i could make some sense out of it for you

just about every car that had enough power to run 10's or faster we've put glides in and picked up over a 3 speed trans-even ones that weighed over 3600lbs

Goal is to have the car at, or as close to 3000 lbs as I can get. It's at 3350 now.

That alone will probably be enough to make it a worth while swap, plus teh weight loss from the tranny swap will help the 3000 lb cause as well.

Hopefully be able to get the sled to 8.50 consistantly, and with the wick lit hopefully it will see the lower 1/2 of the 5 second 1/8th mile ET. Not sure how realistic the goals are.. but that's where I want it when I'm done.

when is a car ever "done"? no such thing.

if your car is ever "done", you need to find a new hobby.

I say done, because that's all the chassis cert is good for and to update it to a 25.5 will require the whole thing to get cut out and done over. I have talked to a couple people on a price on doing that, should I ever get the desire to try to really push it to the next level, but I'm keeping my goals realistic.

Nitrous powered lsx car, if I can run consistant week after week 8.50's with it, and with the wick turned up get her to a low 5 second 1/8th mile pass I should be very happy with that... and should be buying motor parts as fast as I can so I have what I need to keep it running where it is LOL, because at that speed ****'s gonna break. Honestly, I'll probably eat the motor out of the car trying to get it there.

Maintaining the car at that level is gonna be cost enough, I honestly won't be able to afford to push it much farther then that without any serious sponsorship. So when I say done, I mean the goals are met, time to go racing, and hope that I can find ways to tweak the recipe to get a little quicker, there won't be much left to do to the car at that point honestly.
