Default 26" tire or 28" tire

I've been running my car at the track with 26x10.50x15 et streets, my best time so far has been 11.88@117 with a 1.7 60 ft with 10psi in the tires. My best trap was 119 with about 14psi in the tires. I have 4.11 gears, 6 speed manual, and my car is going through the traps in 4th gear at around 6100 rpm. Would it help if I switched to a 28" tire. I'm thinking my MPH would go down, but my 60ft may be better therefore making my et better. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance.

was that a spinning 1.7 60' or a bogging 1.7 60' ? www.f-body.org/gears can help u too

It definitely didn't bog, didn't feel like it was spinning either though.

I was wondering the same thing on mine, i'm trapping @ 115 at 6100 in 4th., 4.11 gears, my DRs are approx. 25.8" tall, now i'm running N20 (100 shot), but was told 28" ET streets would work, & wouldn't hurt my 60ft., & i would be able too leave harder, maybe that would work in your case also, if you were on the bottle i would think it would help, but NA who knows, plus mines an LT1 with stock heads/cam/rockers, so its finished above 56-5700, i guess the only thing you could do is try a set of 28x11.5s & see, i'll bet with that LS1 your fine trapping @ 6100, if it still feels like its pulling, don't worry about it, especially if its hooking good with the 26"s.

With that much power Id suggest the 28in tire. I didnt think I was spinning 26in tires till I saw a tape...they were getting mauled but with a slick they recover so well its sometimes hard to tell if they are spinning or not, specially if your new to them.

28" tire and perhaps getting the car scaled/setup suspension wise. There is local guy cutting 1.5's on a 26" DR on 17's here with similar power.

You've got the car setup nice and light. Good job! Consider your torque curve and redline as to what you'll need to do. Suspension is also something to look at...it's not just tire.

You could consider a 27x 11.5" tire and/or at least run a 26x11.5 et street instead. Also consider increasing tire pressure, that is a bit low to run.

28's are a bit harder to fit on the car. Camaros seem a bit more difficult than TA's.

i ran a 27x10 hoosier and the 28x9 which is 27.3" et drag. there is also a 27" et street, but i wasnt a hug fan of those.

I didn't like the 26x11.5 et street, I doubt that a 27 would be much better.

The 28x9 et drag would be the next best choice for what you're trying to do, 28x10.5S tire would surly take care of your traction situation, but may be enough to make the car fall on it's face too, bogging the car badly. But, they may allow alot more air pressure giving ya a more stable car.

Trick with a stick car is to get the tires to spin about a revolution so the car doesn't bog when you dump the clutch, either that or let the clutch out a little slower, which is gonna kill anything other then a real race clutch like a liberty equipped car uses.

Best bet would be the 28x9 et drag... start the air pressure out in them at about 11 psi and then go up 1 lb of air until the car stops bogging, which the car will do if the tire dead hooks.

IMO I think you need more gear for your setup. I think your crossing the traps to low RPM wise. You need to be crossing the traps at near peak hp to maximize your et...adding a taller tire is only going to lower what rpm your crossing even more. Itll be like dropping down to a 3.73 ratio.

that is what i told him on another site, but he wants to keep the 4.11's. so not to sure how much he will be able to gain and maybe end up losing going to the 28inch tire on these gears

I vote for teh 28". With your MPH, you are making enough power to turn the 28". I think also, you will be able to up the pressure some with more contact area, and not worry about spinning, and hence, not lose any MPH with the taller tire.
The 26" tire is just so small, and with a heavy car and decent power like you are making, I would not be surprised if you were spinning, especially with a stick.

I run a hoosier 27" DOT QTP (4.10 gears) and like them, I can side step the clutch at 6K and not spin with 20psi in them. I think suspension really comes in to play though. Before the turbo I could cut 1.6x's all day long and I'm not the best driver.
