jarrod, i think you have your answer. its more of a duration/rpm than it is a measure of lift when thinking about replacing stock rockers. i doubt you are wanting to go beyond 7500 rpms in any motor you build.

if you do, then you need to look at big dog morel lifters, big springs, and jessel shaft mounter rockers. - that stuff cost more than my short block lol

Actually John, it's more about my dad's car. I can't figure out why it's such a dud. He was doing some research and thought that maybe it's the lifters because he's running a cam with over .600 lift. Maybe the Dart 225s are just too big for the lil ole 346???

has he pulled the valve covers and checked the valvesprings yet? i doubt its the rockers or lifters b/c in stock form they are very good. hell, look around and see how many of us run stock stuff.

but that isnt to say you (dad) has a bad part in there. in any event, if the stock stockers or the stock lifters need replacement, i would replace them with new stockers and the ls7 lifters (stock replacement).

we just have to get your dad's car to kyle and have him look at it. or he can take it to futral, which isnt THAT far away

Ironic you asked this question. I was going to ask the same thing. The latest issue (May 2009, page 66) of GMHTP has an article that says the stock rockers have the possibility to stab the top of the valve when pushed beyond .550" lift... and anything over .550" lift should be replaced with a roller tipped rocker. It also says that larger than that lift applys too much lateral load on the valve stem and guide.

Hmm...

I saw that too. I ran stock rockers for 3 years then I put this my new motor together turning 7500 rpm so I bit the bullet and bought the yella terra. I would rather pay $400.00 for rockers then have to rebuild a whole motor if a rocker goes bad which by the way I cant afford at the moment.lol

sorry for the hijack, but why do you need to spin a motor to 7500 rpm for a 129 mph car? unless you have run a different ET or a motor combo. i dont turn a lot of rpm in my 408 though, so its not a concern.

.59x lift and two of mine came apart on about my 10th pass 6600 rpm shifts. Sent them off to Harland and good so far.

7700 steve? That's some good rpm for a hydraulic setup. I like it
