Default What A3 shifter to use w/o center consol?

I am considering putting an th400 RMVB w/ TB in my car and would prefer to get rid of the center consol.

Does anyone have any pictures of a shifter installed w/o the center consol? If so, can they tell me what modifications where made to make it fit flush w/o a gap in the floorboard where it attaches to the transmission?

I actually just did this. I did go from six speed to a RMVB TH400, so i did have to fab a plate to cover the hole. I also removed the E-brake assembly and airbag module. I used the TCI outlaw shifter, i'll try to get some pitures when i can. Its a nice clean looking shifter and functions very well. Only thing i need to do now is get some new carpet to cover up the exposed areas of the console

No, although it is very nice.

I wanna ditch the center console and go with a flush direct floor mounted kit.

I would really like to see some pictures of Mike's setup with the outlaw picture in the car.

Also, ndfrsd6... that looks very nice. However, I would like something with a cover though so that the metel isn't showing.

This is the one I use. B&M Carbon Composit X shifter. The only pictures I have of it, are it in my 72 BBC Camaro, I'll get some pictures of it in my LS1 car soon.

Very nice guys. Those look great.

Camaro396/Mike-- Why did you decide to go with the Ratchet shifter w/ the pistol grip?

ndfrsd6-- Why did you decide not to go with the ratchet shifter?

Thanks again guys, this forum is great.

I just like it better. I had a B&M Megashifter (T handle ratchet style) shifter and it was nice, but I just liked the carbon fiber pistol grip style better.

Its not a ratchet, i dont like those. Its a gated style. When your in first squeeze the lever pull to second, release the lever and pull to third. There is a gated plate in there that stops you from going 1st to 3rd when the lever is pulled.

Out of curiosity, what do you not like about the ratchet shifters?

Its mostly preference, i had the B&M megashifter before and i like this more. Especially on a full manual valve body that does some street driving.

Ratchets rule, you can never miss a gear unlike the 1/4 stick style where you can grab the handle and skip a gear. Done that racing once or twice while racing, very simple to do.

Thats why I was asking, I currently run a outlaw and have hit the rev limiter trying to shift, because of forgeting to pull the handle. I have a ratchet shifter on the table waiting to go in, but then I saw where Mike preferred the gated, so I was wondering what the cons where to the ratchet before I changed out my outlaw...

Just for clarifications sake, the reason I have to pull the handle to make the shift is because I have a reverse pattern VB and a forward pattern gate..

Can someone explain the mechanics of the ratchet shifter?

Do you pull the lever to upshift only or on any shift?

Also, how does this compare to the gated shifter?

On the ratchet you would pull and release and it will shift to the next gear such as:
Park --->pull-->>go into reverse -->pull--> go into nuetral etc. to go back you would push the shifter and release, everytime you push it, it will go the other direction..
A gated shifter requires you to pull a lever to engage stops to prevent from going to 1 to 3 for instance...

I'm debating between the Quarter stick style and the B&M quicksilver "ratchet" style. I'm keeping the console though, but both come with a cover as an option I believe.
