Help With Drag Shock/Spring Set-Up!!!
Alright, I have done tons of searching with lots of support for mutiple set-ups. We will start a little with my car:
2000 Trans Am, A4, LT's, 3" ORY, 3" DMH Cut-Out, Lid, Free Ram Air Mod, Filter, Smooth Bellows, UMI 3 Point SFC, UMI LCA's, Fully Built Trans, Deep Pan, B&M 24k Trans Cooler, Yank PT4400, Autometer Trans Temp Gauge, Weld Prostars 15 X 3.5 & 15 X 8 w/ E/T Streets (Bias Ply)
I have removed the front sway bar, front bumper support/foam pieces, and all the emmisions stuff up front but thats it. K-member & a-arms will hopefully be bought by the end of the season or for next year.
I am also very used to driving "more strip" style cars used to drive a BBC Chevelle w/ 4.56 gears and a spool on the street etc. I think my PT4400 is perfect in my car so keep that in mind for the set-up also street driving doesnt have as much as a bearing I want it to perform at the track!
I run 12.3-12.4 all day at the track on a 2.73 gear but I want to try to get more out of it as I save for my Midwest Fab 9.
So after all that I have been thinking about going with...
Front:
HAL QA1's Gen F Shocks
HAL QA1's 275lb springs
Rear:
Competition Engineering Rear Drag Shocks 40/60, 50/50, 70/30 ratios
Springs????? (Help me on this what springs stock? V6? Lowering springs?
What it be better to get HAL's in the rear also this is where I couldnt find a ton of info on the rears. I am pretty set on the front set-up unless you guys think other wise.
Sorry about the super long post hope you guys can help!!!

12 way qa1 rears, and the front setup you have in mind is probably your best bet. Unless teh car is going to be a real lightweight, you may want to go with the 300 lb springs though, the 275's work good on cars that are under 3100 lbs, but any heavier then that and the springs are just too soft IMO.
If you haven't gotten a tq arm on the car yet I'd do that before the k member and front a arms, that along with a crossmember to get it off the tranny tailshaft, or a chassis mounted tq arm would help a good bit. Madman sells a good racey piece

See this is what I was worried about and the front spring rate. Some of the posts I saw people where saying the 275lb spring is for lightweight race cars and others say no its fine. I am getting a set off a car that was a roller all its life and now they are parting it out so I am getting a good deal on the front shocks/springs but they have 275lb springs. What exact problem am I going to have with the 275's low riding car? Mushy ride? Or would it not perform its best at the track?
As for the rears your saying the Hal Gen F's also the 12 ways on the rear to so rock those front/back?
I should have my Fab 9 fairly soon hopefully so I will be getting a torque arm with relocation etc.
Also am I sticking with stock rear springs then?

The springs will just be too soft and will have to be preloaded to the moon to get the ride height, if you even can. It will drive like **** on the street too.
The 300's work good. I actually am running a 315 which is a spring rate for an lt1 car. But, with all the weight that's coming out I probably will have to go to a 300.

i run 275 springs on a iron block turbo setup. i dont have a/c, ps. but i do have a turbo, intercooler iron block. id say they are a little mushy but you can get the ride height where you want it. i dont think i can DD my car though with the springs, 300 would be better

my 275s are probably preloaded 2/3s of the way up the shock but i have stock ride height on my car around 4 inches from the top the skinnie to the wheel well...stock springs and shocks in the rear for me also...qa1rs 90/10 up front...
i think a rear drag bar is more important than the shocks...

Even if it drives like crap on the street that's okay i'm not taking ANY turns fast at all. I have no front sway bar and usually drive around on skinnies any way. If the 275 springs are better for racing then i'd rather get those then the 300lb springs, I can live with the mushy driving feeling.
