IMO, don't butcher your nice car. If you really want an auto then I think you should just buy an auto and then have fun with building it. This is coming from a guy that has went 4l60e<Th350 T-brake<M6. Never any track times, but I love the M6. The TH350 was fun and all you will just hate it when people are messing with you on the interstate and you get your *** busted. Pick what you want the car to do, either track or a roll racer. Then decide which trans is better suited for you.

I decided that I wanted a car that will run on the interstate and 40+ rolls, so that called for an M6. Bc I was tired of barely being able to pull a bolt on car in my ms4 cammed th350 3500 stall. Dont get me wrong the TH350 was an F'n blast from a low roll, the flashing converter was alot of fun.

It's just all in what you want. Just be ready to not be able to have an enjoyable cruise with that TH400 .

I've done research for a fellower LS1techer about a 4L80e swap and it is big bucks and after you get done with that, then the question is "how much do you drive?" I have owned 3 speed auto cars and I have made 200+ mile trips driving 75mph, You rev high but thats life.

Considering the hydraulics suck in the M6 cars and the 4L60e is near worthless for anything over stock power or stall, You can do a Th400, built for 700-800 hp, w/ brake and a good stall for less then 3k which you should get the majoirty if your m6 is in good shape and you can sell it.

The person whom I researched for is selling his, its in the FS section and it really all depends on what the market can bear. I suspect if you get 2000-2500 and that included the trans, bellhousing, a good aftermarket clutch that has plently of life left, shifter, consol, bellhousing, and pedals and your about half way to a 4L80e.

You can get a lock up 3 speed auto. Like an extra 1k plus maybe a couple hundred more in converter but it can be done. 4L80 is heavy as **** and will have clearance issues and extra expense.

I actually just called Rossler to see how much more etc. for a lock up. Be like an extra $500 or so. Will only really work on the 350, will work on the 400 but only under 1000fwhp. I have their th350 for years and I have roughly 750 fwhp and the thing is a bull. No issues and haven't even freshened it up since I got it like 4+years ago and I street drive it too. Just an FYI, nice guys over there.

Don't overthink this, i waited over a year to do the swap and spent lots of money to keep doing the M6 thing and fighting issues the entire time. The only regret i have is not doing the TH400 sooner. I don't think highway cruising is that bad if you have a exhaust that is too crazy.

Do the swap, but only if you get a 4 speed. Driving your car to the track that far with an A3 would suck.

For what you're gonna pay for the 4L80 maybe a Gear Vendors overdrive unit on a well built th350 or 400 (I really don't think you need a 400 at your power level)
Nice 8" vert so you can scream outta the gate and the OD unit to get you where you have to go.
I've considered it for my car, just don't have the $2500 for it just now.

Don't do it I make less power than you 420 rwhp to be exact and I'm going 10.70's so far at 3255 pds, my car is just a cam only car bored .020 over because I had to. Your making 436 rwhp thats great it'll fly just get it figured out.

Keep the stick it just takes time I've only made 5 passes and I hope I can go some 50's yet. I will say one thing its all in the clutch setup and gear the **** out of it I run 5.38's.

I hate to see another stick gone

Goo luck with whatever you decide just another guy for the stick
