Post New best after the cam

I ran a best of 12.5 at 113mph through the hooker and 12.4 at 114mph through the cutout both on 1.9 60 ft. Anyways Im a bit dissapointed at those times because my best before was 12.76 at 111.98 in the summer which is not too far from 12.5 at 113mph in the winter. I gained 34rwhp with the cam through the hooker so i was expecting at least 2-3mph increase through the hooker and 3-4mph through the cutout. My problem was that I was shifting to 4th before the end of the track. I tried short shifting to give the 4th gear more chance, but i went slower. Does this mean i need gears to use the power range of the cam in the 1/4mile? What could be the problem?

you could use a set of 4.10's for sure. seen street trim m6 cars with the same power run 12.2's at 116-117 after some practice.

you will get the hang of it, it just takes a little time.

Believe me It cant do any better than this. We rented a track for a whole day and i made more than 30 runs. All of them were around 12.4-12.5 at 113-114mph. At the end i knew that this is what my car can do and i think its due to gearing. I tried one run without shifting to 4th and got 12.6 at 108mph with a red line at 6700RPM at the last 60ft. So Im thinking if the 4th gear at only the last 60ft gave me a 4mph inscrease that means i can go faster if i have been in the 4th a little bit longer. I was thinking 3.73 gears because i road course and 4.10s are too much for my setup.

4.10s are the minimum that car wants

Mayyyybe 3.90s would be the ticket for you, but that car needs all the gear it can get.

Did you try shifting at 6300, 66600 and 6900 and see what mped better?

Get those 60 fts down, and soem gear in the car and it would run in the 11s, which wouldnt be that bad for a lowerd car not setup for drag racing.

Its definitly making the power

Yes i tried short shifting into 4th and it resulted it worse times and MPH. Do u think the 3.73 will give me what i want just to get a higher MPH..... I dont care that much about the ET since my suspension is not for low 60ft's. And by the way the Mcloed didnt like slipping the clutch as u said.... It did slip and i left it to cool down for an hour and it did fine after that. Hey GrannySSshifting do u guys carry 8.8 rear ends?

i was in the same boat as you cam only

shifting through the traps and was cutting 12.7's at 113-114.

gears are the problem. expect at least 3 mph outta 4.10's maybe 3-4 for 4.30's. and the ET will drop too

im waiting to save up for a rear before i get gears since the stocker is a time bomb as it is, forget after putting gears in it

no i do not think 3.73s are anywhere near an optimal gear to get the most mph out of the combination.

Especially not a heavy car. More gear=more mechanical advantage to get that heavy mass at rest in motion

I think 4.10s and a 26 tire or maybe even 4.30s would be ideal. See if you cna set your car up to autocross exaclty one gear higher than you do now, might mean going to 4.30s possibly so it doesnt leave you "in between gears" and bumps you solidly to runnign in that next gear around the track

i dont know nothing about turns though lol

i also agree that you need 4.10s. i was doing 12.80s with 4.10s and tires. then i broke the gears, installed a free set of 3.73s, installed a lid and did all the free mods. now i can only get 13.10s out of it. i can wait to get my 4.10s back. that is the perfect gear for a M6.
