Exclamation stock studs on weld rims???

is it bad to run the stock studs w/ welds? right now i have 15x8 draglites and 5/16 spacer on the rear. will this be able to handle launches w/o breaking something? btw my car is a4 w/2.73 and stock stall with bolt ons. i havnt taken it to the track yet w/ this setup and it would be nice to know if im setting myself up for problems.

btw wasnt sure to post this here or in the wheel and tire section so if it needs to be moved go ahead

I've done it, but only for a short period of time until I got my ARP 12mm studs. I wouldn't recommend it. Just put the ARPs in it and sleep better.

+1 my stock ones weren't long enough. I would just go ARP anyway, they're only $30.

A proper tech guy will say it needs to protrude 1/4 of an inch (or half, as I do not have the book infront of me) past the lug nut.

Stock studs do not have the strength to handle the sheer and will either bend or break. Its borrowed time. Like said, its cheap to upgrade, I will be getting properly lengthed studs for my new rims, when they show up.

You will have to look at the rule book as almost 98% of tracks follow, unfortunately individual choice can be the diff between caring and not caring about things like studs. There is a rule about needing metal valve stems and I think it is ET related but again. I gotta find my book.

Due to ease of inspections most if not all tech guys want to see the stud and not have the owner take off to show it has a longer stud, As some wheels may have all the threads, some are held on with 2 and 1/2 which happens and is dangerous and ultimately can lead to a costly breakage of your car and a waste of my time and other drivers.

I ran the stockers for a while before I upgraded to ARP's with no problems. I doubt you will have an issue with a bolt on car, but you should upgrade them as soon as you can. You can use your stock lugs and wheels with the longer studs, but won't be able to use the plastic lug covers.

Ive never been told I couldnt run because of the studs but I did get heckeled about my fronts not having SS screw in valves. Said if I went 11.99 or faster Id get the boot. Well I went faster and they didnt say anything.
