Nah if your that critical about weight just get a carbon fiber one.

You bought the wrong engine if you wanna go fast.

For your GXP? I'd think that buying a 2nd lid, getting it acid dipped (which I think is hard to find now due to the EPA), painting it, is all a bad value proposition for the money you will spend.

I think you'd be better off sourcing lighter seats and wheels.

.

In the old days it was popular because we did not have fiberglass parts available, and cars were thick back then.
As mentioned, for your thing, it's a waste of time, energy & money. Much cheaper & better ways to save weight.

yeah i kinda figured it was outdated i have not heard a lot about it they dont make any fiberglass or carbon trunks and they only make that stupid inferno hood in carbon fiber

as far as picking the wrong engine... if i just wanted to go fast in a car easily i would have bought an ls1 firebird like everyone else i like doing something different and a little more challenging

I haven't heard of anyone doign acid dipping in YEARS... that's an old school thing to be honest with ya.

There's alot of weight that can be removed I'd guess from other places, and I'd persue all that before going this route. I don't think you'll actually find anywhere that can even do that anymore, because of the mentioned EPA regulations.

You could, get another trunk deck, and try to cut all the supports off of it, I'm not sure what the inside of that one looks like but there's commonly an x inside it, you could get oen and try cutting all that off. I'd guess that will probably do more weight reduction then acid dipping it would. Same goes for the hood. But, it may become really flimsey afterwards... not sure.

That's a nice daily driver.... I wouldn't wreck it trying to go fast personally. Some cars just are a natural for getting raced out... a GXP isn't really one of them, they make too nice a daily driver IMO.

A 3800S/C car can be surprisingly quick when modded right. They respond to bolt on and heads/cams just as great as a LS motor. The 04-07 style like he has isn't as fast or easy to modify as the 97-03s were.

He's got the V8 though. The car in the pic has the V8 fender vents.

I know that, thats why I said in my first post, he has the wrong engine if he wants to go fast.

My last post was in reference to "racing out" a grand prix, stating that while FWD, it still can go pretty fast.

If your are in the Charlotte area there is a place there that does it. They are the ones who did the body parts for Brian Vickers Red Bull car when they got busted at Martinsville VA race last year. I can tell you from personal exp. unless you are looking for every oz. its not worth the money.
