I ran into the bottom 10's for an entire season with an auto and a stone stock 10bolt. Its not the ET that kills them, its the shock off the line.

*Update* I picked him up a set of wheels at pick and pull from a z28 and he ordered a set of Hoosier 255's. He should be getting them in a couple days. We go to the track May 22nd. He is gonna dump at 3,500 and work his way up til he is satisfied. I'm sure he won't be satisfied till the rear breaks.

*UPDATE*
Went to the track. He ended up with a pair of Hoosier 255's. He played with launching and different PSI's all day but could only pull alot of 2.0 60ft's. I think his Eibach sportlines are really holding him back. I told him he should het some springs off a V6 f-body and get some drag shocks/struts. He only launched at the highest at 3,000rpms, any higher and he would spin, and he heated the hell out of them.

How and the hell do some 10 bolts survive 5-6k clutch dumps on M/T et streets while others break on street times launching at 2500 on the street.

Honestly I don't know but I will find out soon enough after I get another job to finish doing my 6.0 swap.. Then I will see how much it really can take with a built trans , lq9 ,heads, D/R, an a monster clutch

GM really toned down the cars to get the 10 bolt to last. The more stock parts you have, the longer it will last.
If you get those sloppy hydros out of an M6 car and replace it with a tick unit, with a grippy clutch, some 4.10's, get some good weight transfer on shitty rear suspension parts that lead to wheel hop on a sticky tire with a full weight car, it's gonna go.
There's lots of reasons why some last and some don't, every setup is different.

I broke my 12-bolt with slicks... 4 times!
Good Clutch + Sticky Tires + Power + RPM = ANY REAR WILL BREAK EVENTUALY.
My 10bolt lasted into the 11's in 2002 till I got a CARTEK clutch. Then it let go first time at the track with the new clutch.

I blew mine 2 times till I got smart and went to a 9", I 60' about the same as you and it's held up now for a while without whining at all... The twelve bolt would whine after 1-2 launches.
The extra pinion bearing makes a big difference on a 6 spd.
